FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college in downtown Brooklyn, offering 53 associate and baccalaureate degrees in the technologies, art and design, business, computer systems, entertainment, healthcare, hospitality, human services, paralegal studies, education and the liberal arts, invites applications for two (2) lecturer positions, a tenure-bearing title through a certificate of continuous employment (CCE), to begin in fall 2022.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology is located in the vibrant and technologically diverse community of DUMBO Brooklyn. The department is convenient to NYC’s subway system and within walking distance of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridge, which provides easy access to NYC’s booming industrial sector with ample opportunities for research and consulting collaborations. The Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology is a growing department with over 800 students who pursue careers in the fields of Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering Technology and Industrial/Product Design. Both the associate degree (AAS) and baccalaureate degree (BTech) in Mechanical Engineering Technology are ABET accredited. The department also offer the associate degree program (AAS) in Industrial Design Technology.

These positions require a commitment to teaching, sustained service to the department, college and university, and academic advisement. The candidates hired will be expected to participate actively in College/University-wide initiatives and function collaboratively in department level efforts, playing active roles in the creation, development, and assessment of department curricula; and maintaining the academic vitality of the department. Day, evening, and weekend teaching and department duties may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, and the ability to teach successfully.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A history of professional practice is highly preferred.
  • A history of teaching, especially higher education teaching experience, are highly desirable.
  • Ability to support the engagement and learning of a diverse student body
  • Knowledge of, and expertise in manufacturing processes, CAD/CAM/CAE, CNC/rapid prototyping, materials science, industrial/product design, finite element methods, robotics, machine design projects.
  • Ability to engage in program development, recruitment, and student advisement. Contributions to committee work is expected, as well as other department, college, university and/or community service.
  • Continued professional growth and scholarly contributions to the field are desirable.
