As far as the ethics of this project, it was completely the kid’s ideas. I did not take from any previous artist’s ideas. Just variations of stories that already exist which is the case with any idea. And in addition, once the students put forth their ideas, I brought it to my site coordinator and he gave the go ahead on the work. As I see it is important that ideas are presented first and given the okay by The AIGA.

I agree with the outcome of the case because any sort of copyright infringement should be dealt with and anyone who participated in it as Mr. Fairey did should be found guilty. Mr. Fairey took pictures of Obama for his Hope poster in 2008 for Obama when he became president. He made it seem as if it were his own and gave no credit to the actual creator and photographers.

At my Internship from day 1, I agreed to the AIGA with the agreement from my site coordinator on work produced and the functions of the classroom I taught. I was told by my site coordinator that I needed to run a classroom related to art working on a project that could be displayed showing the artistic talents that were developed, and the imagination of the kids.

As far as placing company Logos in the work that was presented. I did not have to worry about that as far as what the kids were working on because we did not have to use any logos as it was their work. However, when it came to PowerPoint presentation, my site coordinator did not want any of the company’s logos on my presentation because, he didn’t want any ties with the company or any problems. The only thing that made it onto my PowerPoint about the company was the shirt the specialist wore to represent the organization.

I did not have to sign any confidentially agreement with my organization. However, I was told not to have their logos on presentations I had for class. SO with that in mind I didn’t add any logos from my internship. And even tried to refrain from using the organizations name a lot.

I have not met anyone specifically in the field I want to get into. However, through challenges at my internship as far collaborating with the fellow art specialist, or simply dealing with the behaviors of the students at time, I built bond with my supervisor. Sometimes after the program ended my supervisor would give me a ride home and share some ends and outs of his experiences with working and creating his own business. which was very informative to me, because I eventually want to start my own business.

We also had conversations regarding people skills and how to diffuse certain tension with fellow coworkers or even the students that I am working with. I took heave to these things because as I venture off into other job fields pertaining to my skill, I will be working with a multitude of people with all sorts of agendas and wants. I will need to know how to collaborate and come to a median where work can still be done.

Now at my internship we are starting to get into the more exciting parts of art and comic design which is the body and character design, I have created a template of the human body breaking down all of the components regarding the body. to display measurement of libs and how tall the body is in the art and comics world which is 8 heads.

This part of art is presenting more challenges to the students. So the way I am further elaborating on the body, is simply tell them to start off with just shapes and very basic forms, This way there is a stronger sense of where muscles will form instead of starting with muscles to begin.  The students have also gone over design ideas of the main characters of their comic.

The class is still working on the head and perfecting it to the best of their ability. We are currently gearing towards a project I have intended for the class to do. The Students came up with a comic book story dealing with an Angel and a Devil who are twin brothers. Below is another example of student work. The kids are really coming along.

Currently at my internship, the students are honing the craft of drawing the human head. I had to create a lesson plan in which I broke down the basics of the head in different angles and gave it to the students as reference for them to practice. Below Is one of my students Josiah. With help from me of course, he went to the whiteboard and put something pretty spectacular up for the rest of the class to see.

At my internship, the culture there is very much so professional, but laidback and casual at the same time. I can come into work very comfortable wearing Jeans, Joggers, Sneakers, etc. In a way, that helps bridge the gap between student and lead specialist of the activity because they can relate to the dress code. At times, what I’ve learned with kids is that formal wear can be quite intimidating. So for them to see someone in front of them dressing in ways that are more comfortable, they tend to open up more towards that person. And that has been the case with me at my internship.

The day starts with the kids coming into the lunch room after school has ended and receiving food before program starts. The specialist come in and round the kids up that want to join their activity and bring them upstairs to the classrooms. My art Activity takes place in one of the classrooms of the teachers from the day school. I have the kids sit around me as I work on the white board. We have discussions based on the lesson I am currently teaching, with a good laugh along the way.

Journal Entry 2

I am the co-specialist for the Art activity they offer there. My Goal for the students is too create a comic book to display their creativity and their passion in art. I received this opportunity through my sisters connection with the site Coordinator Kwesi Haynes. I was called into the site and received an interview with the site coordinator. I showcased some of my artwork and displayed my passion for the arts and received the position on the spot and started working that same day.

During the interview I was asked things such as why do I want to intern here? What is my major in school? Why do I love art? And what does art do for me? I answered converting my love for art and exactly what it does for me; and why kids are the metaphor of what art does for me. Essentially, art is an escape from adult life for me, and all the stress that comes with. It brings me back to my childhood where I could completely be by my lonesome, but create worlds full of  creativity and fantasy.
