Determinants and Cramer’s Rule

  1.  \rhd Determinants of 3×3 matrices and linear Transformations. (10:00)This is a linear algebra video but gives more information about what a determinant is.  It tells how to compute the determinant of a 2×2 matrix, and then how to use that row expansion and the determinant of a 2×2 matrix to find the determinant of a 3×3 matrix.
  2. \rhd Determinant of a 3×3 matrix: standard method (1 of 2) (3:56)  Another example by row expansion.  It is worth noting that you can also expand around a column.  You might wish to ask your instructor about this.
  3.  \rhd Determinant of a 3×3 matrix: shortcut method (2 of 2) — Cramer’s Rule (2:39)  This video shows how to use a shortcut called Cramer’s Rule to compute the determinant of a 3×3 matrix without doing row or column expansion.
