Hi, my name is Yvonne. My major is Biomedical Informatics and I want to go to medical school after college. I live in Queens, and I am a transfer student to City Tech. I originally was attending York College, but I transferred about a year ago. I am currently a junior. I went to high school on Staten Island at Curtis High School. I love working out, reading books, listening to R&B but I like most music genres, and I recently got a guitar and have been learning how to play in my spare time.
I have taken MAT 1375 at City Tech. Math has never been my favorite subject but I do not hate it either. I think what keeps it from being my favorite is that I am not always able to get to a place where I feel very comfortable with the work and then the tests come to soon. I think to change this impression of always feeling “rushed”, I need to just spend more time studying and practicing it because it does not come as naturally as I would like.

      Hey Yvonne,

Thank you for sharing about yourself to the class as I’m impressed with your interests, hobbies and endeavors. Similar to you, I reside in Queens, NY. I hope your transition from York College to City tech was smooth as I know it can sometimes be hectic! I wish you the best throughout your time in City Tech and further!

P.S. You should possibly play a tune for us with your guitar next class if the professor allows it haha.

      Best,
      Lukesh Matadin

  2. Robin Khan

Hi, My name is Robin khan, This is my 4rd semester’s and I am kinda lazy doing hw and due lately.

  3. rasmane

Hi everyone, my name is Rasmane Ouedraogo, I live in the Bronx. My major is Electrical engineering and telecom. Technology and I want to be a system administrator. The highest level of math that I have taken is MAT 1575. I hope I will learn more from this statistics class.

  4. JINQUAN LI

Greetings everyone! My name is Jinquan Li. You can also call me Bill. I’m major in Electrical Engineering Technology. I’m originally from China and currently living in Gravesend Brooklyn. The high school i went was in China so you might not know anything about it. I like watching movies, listening to the pop music and working out when i am free.

Math had been my favorite subject when i was in primary School and Middle school. I was good at doing math and i liked it because i felt a sense of achievement when i solved a problem correctly. Then, since the beginning of high school, because I was addicted to computer games, I had no interest in study. However, I’ve gotten my interest back in it now. I hope we all will have a wonderful semester!

    • Jialun Huang

      Hi Jinquan,
I found out that we had same problem during high school, I put all my attention into video games and not have interest at school. This really hurts my grade during my high school. I’m glad that you got your interest back.

      • SM

Hello Bill, I kind of had the same issue in a sense that I too was addicted to video gaming. But I have overcame that addiction, now I play just to spend my leisure hours. I used to workout as well but since the transition to my senior year, it became really difficult to set some time aside and focus on full body exercises.
Everything considered, I hope all of us will have a wonderful and productive semester

      Hello Jinquan,
I can’t believe that we are in the same course other than our major course, many of them. I think eventually we can graduate at the same time too. Anyway, I also addicted to something when I was around 15, which is the novel, but it does not like the good one, it just fiction and not really useful. Overall, hope we have a good semester again!

  5. Pedro

    Hello Class!
My name is Pedro Cabrera and I started at Citytech in the Spring semester, 2015. I transferred from NYIT after graduating with an AAS in Electronics Engineering Technology from TCI College. My major is Electrical Engineering Technology and I work as an electronics technician in the radio electronics field. I enjoy RF theory and I intend on staying in the field for the duration of my professional life. I’ve been out of school since Spring 2018 and I am now returning for my final semester to finish my Bachelor’s.
I enjoy all math specially when it is applied to circuit analysis. Math became one of my favorite subjects during high school and now it plays an important part of my life because I use it at work often. Now I have learned to appreciate math further due to the essential role it plays in the performance of my work.

Despite the ongoing pandemic, I hope you all were able to enjoy this winter break whilst ensuring the safety amongst your community, loved ones and most importantly, yourselves. As the new year bestows us with new opportunities, lets leave the chaotic 2020 Fall Semester / year behind and transition smoothly into the 2021 Spring Semester / year with an open mind! To start things off, I’m Lukesh, however, you can call me Luke! I come from a Caribbean background and reside in Queens, NY. Throughout my life I have been exposed to the engineering field which I gradually grew a passion for. This exposure has started at the high school I attended, Thomas A. Edison Career and Vocational High School where I was able to study Automotive Engineering. Fast forwarding a few years, I’m currently pursuing my BTECH degree (Bachelor’s of Technology) in Electrical Engineering. Throughout the process of achieving this goal, I have been utilizing my extra time to gain & diversify my working experiences / skills that can benefit my long-term career choice. Currently, I’m employed by J.P Morgan Chase as a part-time Associate Banker. However, this isn’t a career path that I’m considering as it’s solely a job to help build certain experiences that I lack on my resume. I’ve been with the company throughout my time in college and as I approach my last year to achieve the BTECH degree, I’m finally applying to full time jobs that are related to my field of study. Additionally, or the past 6 years, I have been trading securities like stocks and bonds to fund personal endeavors. Trading has become my second job that I enjoy doing on my day offs and spare time during the weekdays. As the weekdays come to an end, I prepare for my weekend hobby which is being a DJ. I provide music & entertainment at private events such as weddings, sweet16’s, corporate gatherings to even West Indian nightlife scenes in Queens, NY. However, due to COVID 19 Djing was put to a halt with social gatherings restrictions in place and clubs being shut down.

Being in an Electrical Engineering major comes with a lot of math & science. However, before I was exposed to the major I didn’t really enjoy learning math. Throughout high school, math was my least favorited subject as I didn’t understand the concepts of certain topics and the reason why we should be learning it. At the time, it was useless for me. Though, as time went by and I started college that changed quickly. I started to realize there is a purpose of it as I was able to apply it to my major. When conducting research, we go through phases which includes understanding the theories and experimenting the theories hands on. The theory is where all the calculations are involved and without understanding the computations and how to achieve the end goal through those computations you wont be able to understand how to conduct the hands on phase. So being able to understand the math behind something and knowing how relevant it is to move onto the final stages of certain experiments makes it interesting to me. The reason I enjoy math now is because its a very useful tool and can be applied in anything in life, whether its for you personal gains or career advancements. Therefore, math has gradually made its way in becoming my most favorited subject now!

  7. Joan Chen

My name is Joan Chen, I major in Biomedical Informatics at CityTech. I should be graduating after the fall semester. Im born and raised in NYC, currently living in Brooklyn. I went to Highschool at Union Square called “Highschool for Language and Diplomacy”. I don’t like reading but on my spare time, I’ll practice piano and listen to Edm.

Math was my favorite subject in elementary school but as I grew older, it got more difficult so it became my least favorite subject. I took precalculus in this college and thought it was hard but after taking calculus I noticed it wasn’t so bad, maybe because choosing the right professor matters a lot.

  8. Danyal Ellahi

My name is Danyal Ellahi and I am a college freshman attending my second semester at City Tech majoring in Computer Science. I was born and continue to reside in Brooklyn. I attended Brooklyn Technical High School which is a specialized High School. It was pretty tough and overwhelming with the amount of work students received, as well as the high expectations that the teachers had from their students. In my spare time, I enjoy watching videos and live streams, as well as playing with my cat. I also have been learning a new language which has been pretty enjoyable so far.

Math has been and continues to be my favorite subject so far. The reason behind this is because to me, math is really easy to understand and I excel in math more than any other subject. Science subjects that involves math is something I also enjoy, but everything other subjects I do not enjoy at all, like English and History.

    • Shannon

Ello Danyal, it is very nice to meet you. It is a pleasure to find out you are also majoring in Computer Science, as well as I. Just out of curiosity about what CST class you taking this semester, I am stuck with C++. I can agree that math is the most popular subject people like but for me over time that has changed and I like math a little less than before.

  9. Maiya

    Hi everyone 🙂
My name is Maiya George, I’m a liberal arts and science major at City Tech. I will be transferring to Hunter College in the fall to pursue my bachelors in chemistry. I’m from the Bronx and currently live in White Plains, and i attended Health Opportunities high school. In my free time i enjoy watching anime, listening to R&B, and reading poetry.

Math hasn’t always been my favorite subject, it takes me a while to fully understand concepts; i usually have to study a bit more. It does also depend on the teacher because some concepts are easier understood in various examples.

  10. Nicole Lun

Hi, my name is Nicole Lun. My major is Telecommunications engineering, this is my 6th semester at City Tech. I was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. I went to Colegio San José de Tarbes La Florida (in Venezuela). I am currently living in Brooklyn. Most of my free time I spend it baking/cooking and watching series and movies.

Math has always been one of my favorite subjects. I have a love/hate relationship with math. I really enjoyed Pre-Calc, but I had a hard time with Calc I & II. I hope to enjoy and learn a lot in this class.

    • Yani acham

      hello Nicole,
we have the same major, we are taking four class together this semester. Wishing you good luck for the rest of your academic years.

  11. Shannon

Ello guys, my name is Shannon Russell. My pronouns are she, her, and hers. I was born and raised next to the loudest and crowdest place in the Bronx, Yankee Stadium. I went to HCZ Promise Academy 1 high school, and I am glad I graduated, highschool took forever to end. I had no senior trip, prom, or even a graduation. This is my first year in college, majoring in Computer Science. I want to be a game developer for VR games and PC games. During my free time, if I have because I babysit, I would read books, play video games, write little stories, or draw my life away.

I used to be a child that loved math and was willing to tutor people just for fun. I was in a few math honors classes. I took Geometry and Algebra 2 Honor class and AP Calculus. Everything was perfect because I learned challenging things, even though it was never really used in life. It was all “perfect” until I was halfway through AP Calculus. We had two professors teaching us, which was not a problem. It was a problem that they did not teach together. One day we had the male professor the other day was the female, and they will alternate from teaching. My issue was when they started doing things the other professor said not to do. For example; we were learning about asymptotes and one will say how to find a hole correctly, then the next day the other professor will do the opposite of what we were taught. It would have been simple enough to have them both teach instead of alternating, but then one person’s position switched so one was no longer teaching. We were stuck with the professor saying that everything we were taught, was all wrong. Eventually, everyone in the class was removed and so was the teacher, so I never was able to properly learn the materials for AP Calc which sucked. So here I am retaking classes I already took because my school didn’t get the Final Exam for us to not retake calculus again. I absolutely hate math in regards to Calculus. I want to go back to geometry and redo proofs all over if I can just to avoid learning Calculus.

  12. Jialun Huang

My name is Jialun Huang, my major is Electrical Engineering Technology. This is my 3rd year in Citytech. I went to high school at “Forest Hills High School”.
Math is my favorite subject because according to my major, math is like a tool, helps me solve difficult problems.

    • JINQUAN LI

      Hey Jialun,
I’m glad that we are studying in a same major. This is my third year in this college, too. I hope we will have more communications in the future, not only about math but also other courses.

    • Hong Liu

      Hello Jialun,
Nice to meet you, I can’t believe we come from the same HS, and same major. I would like to contact you and talk about our major and even about HS.

  13. Matthew Rivera

My name is Matthew Rivera and I am a freshman. I live in Woodside, Queens and my personal music interest is mainly composed of hip/hop or rap. I also enjoy watching movies and tv shows like django unchained or the office. My degree is currently computer science and I used to attend Archbishop Molloy Highschool. In my free time I enjoy to play basketball and workout.

Math has been challenging in college for me but everything that is taught during a lesson I usually understand at the end of the day. I have taken algebra, college algebra, pre calc, geometry and statistics in my academic career. My liking of math started back in the 4th grade and has transitioned all the way to college.

  14. Sabah Minhaj

    Hi guys!!
This is Sabah Minhaj. This is my first year of college. My major is Computer Science. I’m from Queens. This is my 2nd semester in Citytech. I went to Francis Lewis High School. I love to listen to music, do online shopping, travel and hang out with friends.

I love to do Math that’s why this is my favorite subject. I love to playing with numbers and I easily understood math very well. I always have confidence about math.

  15. Alexander Wan

Hi, my name is Alexander. My major is Computer Science. I was born and raised in Brooklyn. I went to Edward R. Murrow High School which is located near Brooklyn College. I enjoy hanging out with friends during my free time.
Math was never my favorite subject because I never enjoyed the fact that if you make one mistake, the answer would be completely wrong. It was never forgiving for any small mistake that is done.

  16. Jasur Khalilov

Hello, my name is Jasur Khalilov. This is my 2nd semester of my freshmen year in City Tech. My major is computer science. I am from Turkey and I currently live in Brooklyn. The high school I went to was Rachel Carson which is at Neptune Ave. In my spare time I like to workout and experiment my culinary skills.

Math has never been my strongest subject. But when I understand the formulas and learn how to solve equations it feels like amazing. The thing I don’t like about math is it can be boring and can be stressful when you don’t understand.

    • Mehnaz

Hey Jasur, nice to meet you. Ever since I was little it’s been a dream of mine to go to Turkey. So, hearing that you’re from turkey just made me happy. I really want to visit Cappadocia and the blue mosque in Istanbul. And yes, I agree once you know the formulas and learn the method to solve the problem it feels great. Talking about boring Calculus definitely made me feel like that. Anyways I hope you have a great semester!

    • Saffa akhtar

      Hi Jasur,

That’s awesome that you like too cook. I’m a huge foodie, I don’t like too cook all the time but when I do have time I try my best to try out new dishes. I wish you good luck in the rest of your college semesters and future. Also math isn’t that bad.

  17. Mehnaz

Hi, my name is Mehnaz and my major is biomedical informatics. Medicine has always been my interest since day one , so after finishing bachelors I’m hoping to go to P.A( physician assistant) school and get my masters as well. I live in the Bronx and I went to Women’s academy of excellence for high school. I’m currently a junior in college. In my spare time I generally like to do art or read inspirational books and if not productive then probably just watch netflix .

The highest level of math I have taken is MAT 1575 at city tech. I actually really loved math since elementary and most probably I liked it because I got to challenge myself with numerous problems and the feeling of accomplishment at the end when answered correctly is probably one of the best feelings. To be very honest I really enjoyed solving problems until I reached Calc 2 and it made my question my life a few times.

    • Joan Chen

Hello Mehnaz. We major in the same field and Im also trying to apply for a masters program in Physician assistant after my bachelors. There’s at least 2 people in each of my classes applying for this program, it’s competitive so good luck to both of us.

      • Mehnaz

Hey Joan! Its nice to know we are majoring in the same field and trying to aim for the same career. Yes, it’s definitely very competitive and I wish you all the very best!

    • Saffa akhtar

      Hi Mehnaz,

I’m also majoring in Biomedical Informatics. But I haven’t decided what I want to do after, maybe nursing to be specific a Neo natal since I love babies !! I also love math. But I wish you best of luck in the near future. Nice to meet you.

      • Mehnaz

Hey Saffa nice to meet you!I hope you find your passion and what makes you happy. And all the best for the future.

  18. Jimmy

Hi, my name is Jimmy Guan, and my major is Computer Science. I was born in New York and raised there, but currently I am living with my relatives in Manhattan to be closer to the college. I went to Newtown High School, mostly because it was the closest school. In my free time, I like to listen to music, but I also like to play video games.
Math is my favorite subject and has been since I feel actively engaged whenever I am partaking in such activities. The reason I feel this way is because I find more fun in math than I do other subjects, as reading/writing is not my strong point and often bores me. Moreover, the teachers that help me acquire better thinking skills and approaches when it comes to math has also been very helpful. This includes organizing my work, checking my work, and optimizing my approach towards problems.

    • Jasur Khalilov

Hello Jimmy, I also major Computer science but also game a lot. What kinds of games do you play?

      • Jimmy

I generally like RPGs, and some of the games I am into right now are Terraria and Osu!.

  19. Saffa akhtar

    Hello everyone,

My name is Saffa Akhtar. I am a junior, completing my bachelor’s in biomedical informatics. I haven’t really decided what I want to do as a profession but let’s see. I’m from Brooklyn, I live in Dyker heights. I went to Urban Assembly school for Criminal Justice for High School. I love to dance and I’m super outgoing. My favorite subject is Math, I don’t know what I’m doing in a science major lol. It was always my favorite subject, for instance in high school I would love too solve all these problems. But I really hope I learn more in math this semester.

  20. Hong Liu

I wish you all the best of luck not only in classes but 2021 in general!

  24. SM

Hello everyone, My name is SM Ashraf Hossain.
I will be graduating this semester, I am majoring in Computer Engineering Technology and have an associate degree on Electromechanical Engineering. I live in Brooklyn but I am planning to move out of NYS and aiming to settle in DC once I get my Bachelor’s degree. I finished my high school back in Bangladesh(South East Asia). I spend most of my spare time playing competitive video games. I was also obsessed with working out at some point in my life and physical exercise was on my everyday routine. My aspiration is landing a job in the field of computer engineering and I am mainly looking to become a patent examiner. I have recently taken an interest in cybersecurity which is more in parallel with computer science than engineering so security analyst/engineering is an option/route that I left open for myself.

In the beginning I really used to hate Math because of how complicated it would appear and it was basically the bane of my academic success. I started taking math more seriously when I was on the 7th grade and started kind of “attacking” math problems in a different way. From then onwards, I enjoyed all sorts of math courses and started having academic achievements (domestic math olympiad). The highest level of Math course that I took was differential equations (MAT 2680) which is extremely crucial for my major. I am looking forward to this course as it takes me to a different realm of mathematics as opposed to the previous math classes that I enrolled in.

  25. Jose A. Jimenez

    Hello all,

My name is José A. Jimenez, I am majoring in Telecommunication Eng. Tech., I already have an Associate degree in the field, but I’m in the process of getting my bachelor’s degree. I’ve been attending City Tech for some time already. So that, if you need to know where the hidden bathrooms are in the Namm building let me know. I was born in Dominican Rep. but moved to the US when I was 16 years old. I finished High School in NY and then went to college.

I have this love and hate relationship with Math because you need it for everything, but it needs time to be understood and learned.

Lastly, this is my ”last math” (Eng. students know) course, so I hope I can get an A.

    • Nicole Lun

Hi José, I am also a Telecommunication major. I am getting my associate degree this semester.
I feel the same about math.

      • Jose A. Jimenez

        That’s great!
If I can help you with anything don’t hesitate to ask.

  26. Yani acham

    Hello everyone,
My name is Yani Acham Yaou, I am a junior in Telecommunication Technology, my pronounce is she and her. I am from Niger west Africa, where I was born and rise. I move to the USA in 2015, the transition was difficult since I have to switch from the French educational system to the American one. In my free time, I love to cook and try new recipes.
when I transferred to City tech from Niger college, I have to take basic math to move up to math 1575, the high level required by my major, because I forget all math that I learned since I graduated my business administration in 2012 in Niger.” Math is practicing, more you practice more you get better,”

  27. Cindy Mei

    Intro:
Hi, my name is Cindy Mei and I am in the Emerging Media Technology major. I live in Brooklyn and I enjoy dabbling in art and music during my spare time, otherwise it’s video games and binging TV.

    Math:
It wasn’t a huge revelation, just a realization that &&, || , and booleans was similar to something from freshman year of high school math and that if people really want kids to care about math, they should just tell them “you could use math to make video games” rather than “needing to know the height of a ladder”. That and radians, but I still hate trig.

  28. Alhassan Ibrahim

Hello everyone, my name is Alhassan Ibrahim but you can also call me AL.
I am currently majoring in Computer Science. I was born and raised in Bronx, NY. I also currently live in the Bronx. I went to the Urban Assembly Of Applied Math and Science for high school. I enjoy reading books and manga as well as listening to a variety of different types of music.

Math was always my favorite subject and still is surprisingly as all my friends hate it. I just found math to be so amazing and complicated. The more complicated it got the more it drew my interest. I also love math because how it’s a like a pillar of foundation for almost everything in the world.

  29. Joan Pujols

Hello, class my name is Joan Pujols. I am currently majoring in Computer Science and I currently live in New Rochelle. I am currently a Software Engineer finishing my Associate’s Degree in City Tech. I’ve been in City Tech for around two and a half years. I enjoy math and I feel like in this course I will learn topics related to my career.

  30. Husam

Hello! My name is Husam Abdelrahim and I am currently a City Tech student. I am currently majoring in Computer Science and I been learning and programming with C++ and C#. I also do take my time to learn other program languages as well such as Python and Java and I am really enjoying programming and problem solving. I like to face challenges where I can actually have to think and see how certain coding situation can be solved and review for any error. During my free time I try to lay back and not stress out too much, communicate with other friends and many more. However, I continue to train and learn new method with coding everyday.

I currently live in Queens, it can get hectic here but it’s no surprise at all. The music I like to listen to is any genre really. I don’t really stick to one genre of music I like to listen to whatever sounds good.
