  1. Romuald Thomas

My name is Romuald Thomas, and I am majoring in computer science. I enjoy being on the computer, Which is why I picked that major. One of my goals is to fully understand how a computer functions inside and out. My goals for this semester are to improve my coding skills and understand Pythons and JAVA languages better. In my free time, I play basketball and watch my shows. Currently, I’m watching “Next “on Hulu and “Biohackers” on Netflix.

Math was always been my favorite subject, I find it interesting to learn new ways to deal with numbers. Math became my favorite because growing up with my dad used to solve math problems in his head and I wanted to be able to do the same, so I took math very seriously to improve my skills to be able to do more than he can in my head.

  2. notrich

My name is Richard Hind, I’ve always been considered the clown of my class and always tried helping people. I enjoy making people laugh, and watching a lot of comedies and horror movies. I’m majoring in Electronic Engineering, but still not fully sure as to what I want to do or be in life. This whole college thing is pretty scary to me so far. I don’ really read unless its required for an English class. My number one artist has to be Logic followed by Joyner Lucas, then J cole.

Math was my favorite subject growing up, but as I got older and the math started to get harder, I started to loose interest in it. At first growing up I was the kid that was able to do math problems quickly and always understand them the best, even got awards for them and being a good puzzle solver back in elementary school. In middle school, I was still doing pretty good at math, but in high school is where things just went down hill. I started with geometry and did pretty decent in it, then with trigonometry, I really fell off, almost failing the class. Then took statistics and did great with that, followed up by AP calculus. In calculus, I did pretty decent in all honesty. But at this point in time, I do not like math at all

Bro, I am not gonna lie I can’t relate at all……Math has been like my weakness cause Numbers and Letters just gets me confuse

    • Tanvir Rahman

Hi, I can also relate. This is also a little scary to me as a first generation college student in USA. Hoping to get the guidance and help from others if I get stuck, as I am always there to help others if I can.

    • Andy

I definitely can relate that with math since it starting to be easy at first, after that it started to become hard to solve and understand.

  3. Steven Young

Hi, my name is Steven Young and I am 18 year old and an freshmen to city tech. I am currently majoring in Computer Systems because Computers fascinates me. I choose Computer System because when the first iPad came out I was fascinated on how the device was functional just with a finger dragging back and forth which was revolutionary. I don’t really like to read books that much but I do love listening to kpop (korean pop), cpop/rap (chinese pop/rap) and I also love watching Korean drama and reality shows. In my spare time I love to play games while livestreaming myself playing the game. I would say livestreaming is my part time job but I mostly do it for fun just to see my progress and to make friends. I also hope that us as classmates could be friends 🙂

Math was never my favorite subject and the reason why Math was never my favorite subject was because of the number and letters just confuses my brain and makes me confuse. Also, Math was always and will always be my worse weakness but I would love to start liking Math more because Math is everywhere we go nowadays so I would like to try to get into Math.

    • Andrae Jones

Hey steven, I listen to kpop but maybe the songs I listened to weren’t the best. Maybe you could send me your playlist so I can see what’s about, also you said you do live streaming as part-time. What type of games do you play?

    • Raj Nath

Ah yes, I can relate. Math was always the most challenging subject in school. I hope me and you both can perform better in Math these coming years in college.

    • Ashelin

I also didn’t like math because it was my weakness however depending on the teacher it gets easier and tutoring definable works.

  4. Kayla Staton

Hello, my name is Kayla. I am an introverted young woman with a passion for art. Here at CityTech I’m studying architecture, but in my spare time I write poetry, compose music, and read for pleasure. I am currently reading a book by Sun Tzu called The Art of War. Whenever I am not reading I am usually catching up on some shows. My favorite show to binge watch at the moment is Everybody Hates Chris.
My opinion of math changed the more I fell in love with architectural design. I love designing and no matter how big or small a project is math must be used. I used to feel indifferent about math because I found some subjects hard to understand, but architecture has taught me the importance of math and all that is does for a well-functioning society.

  5. Andrae Jones

Hello everyone my name is Andrae Jones. I am currently majoring in Computer Information System. I choose this major due to the world revolving around technology I felt as if that I needed to be a part of this change. I was always a tech person, I normally build computers with my friends just for fun even though sometimes they would not work. I migrated from Jamaica in 2017 and I’m still getting acclimated with everything, but I feel as if my college experience will make me adapt a lot better to diversity and also meet new people.

  6. Abdullah

Hi, everyone! I’m Abdullah. This is my second semester here at City Tech. Currently, I am majoring in Computer Information System AAS. I love to solve problems in tech fields which make me choose my major as Information Systems. But still, I am confused if it is my passion or not. I always try to stay open-minded. Meeting new people is one of the things I love to do. I don’t like reading a lot. I am very adventurous-minded. Hiking, biking, exploring new places are absolutely my thing!!

Math was/is always been my favorite subject. We use maths in our everyday life. Solving any kind of problem by ownself and get the correct answer is very exciting for me! There is no specific rule for math. I mean math could be solved in my ways. That’s another reason for my love of math. I have a genuine interest in math. If my current major don’t click for me, I will change it to an Applied Math major. I believe a wonderful future is waiting for all of us. We all have the opportunity to make a difference.

    Nice to meet you all!!

    • aroni

Hey mate, I can relate with you.I also love to exploring. We have known each other since last semester.I also believe a wonderful future is waiting for all of us.Best wishes for you mate.

  7. nicole sacasari

hey my name is nicole and this is my second year at city tech. my pronouns are she and her. i am majoring in liberal arts and sciences , looking forward to receiving my associates degree next year. when i earn my associates degree , my plan is to move on towards a different major and aim for a bachelors degree or a masters degree if possible. on my free time , i usually go out and exercise or watch shows and movies. i’m currently watching “all american” on netflix.

at some point when i was younger , i used to like math and it was my favorite subject. to me, math wasn’t as complicated as it was until i got to high school, thats when i started disliking math a lot. i don’t like the many numbers and symbols that are used in math. i disliked geometry but i will say that algebra and trigonometry wasn’t that bad in high school.

  8. Tanvir Rahman

Hi, my name is Tanvir Rahman. I am from Bangladesh. I am currently majoring in computer systems and this is my freshman year. I choose this major because I wanted to learn more about the computer, coding and programming. Now days the future is all about the technology and science so why not explore the world with the technology to make ourselves modern. In my spare time I like to watch movies. I am a huge fan of Spiderman, waiting to watch this movie now after watching the trailer.

Math has been one of my favorite subject since I was a kid. When I was in Bangladesh I used to do a lot of math but coming to USA changed it all. The rules and systems of doing math in USA is totally different so I sometimes don’t understand what the teachers are saying. But after few days I get a hang of it and with the office hours I learn new things. In my senior year of high school, we did geometry and had a project where we designed a house on our own using a website called Tinkercad. It was a really fun project for me. Now lets see how this class goes, not understanding the problems always makes me not like the class.

    • Rakib Hassan

I also had the same problem where I would dislike the class because I couldn’t understand what I was doing wrong. I think the best way to learn is to watch youtube videos on the subject, at least you can go back and see what you don’t understand.

  9. Raj Nath

My name is Raj Nath. I am currently planning on majoring in Computer Science. I have been pursuing Engineering and Technical related hobbies since I was in the 4th Grade, so It has always been a passion of mine. Recently though, I’ve decided that I preferred Software over Hardware and I decided to fully immerse myself in this field. For most of this year, my main priority has been going to the gym and I find it a very entertaining and fun hobby. I Plan on maintaining my workout schedule and school schedule to the best of my ability, but I fear I may not have as much time as before to go to the gym. I would like to learn the basics of programming and then continue to expand my skill set with practical application.

I was always a fan of math up until my sophomore year, Algebra I was fun and easy to grasp but still challenging in ways (at the time). The following year, taking Algebra II in my sophomore year, I struggled severely during class and didn’t do my best. Truth be told, I was missing school due to family-related emergencies and had a tough year overall. This had affected my attendance in school and in the class, and because of that I had ended up missing a lot of the curriculum and was overwhelmed trying to catch up. Not to mention, I hadn’t taken geometry yet and Trig utilized a lot of Sin, Cos, and Tan. Regardless, I hope to be able to understand and comprehend math as well as continue to be challenged by it, in these coming years.

  11. Sebastian Torres

My name is Sebastian Torres, I’m a freshman and I’m majoring in Computer Hardware Engineering. I chose this as my major because I like computers and want to work on their parts. I like playing games on pc and console, specifically RPGs and FPSs. I mostly play Cyberpunk 2077, overwatch, GTA, The Witcher 3, and Fire Emblem Three Houses. I mostly watch anime, true crime documentaries, and telenovelas. My top five favorite animes are Darling in The Franxx, Chivalry of a Failed Knight, Waiting in The Summer, Infinite Stratos, and The Quintessential Quintuplets. I like to read occasionally and am currently reading The Witcher book series. I’m also currently watching It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Math was never my favorite subject until the 8th grade. I don’t remember why but I enjoyed it and have ever since, except for my junior year of high school where I liked U.S. history more than math. During my senior year of high school, I was lost in my math class because the teacher wanted to prep us for college by teaching us more advanced stuff and that made me very confused and dislike math a little.

    • Rabia Basri

      Hi Sebastian,

Just wanted to mention you should give One Piece a try it will become a summer/fall hit. Also what GTA do you play? I also had the same experience in high school where the teachers kept rushing math lesson fast and jump to the more advance topics without getting a good understanding of what I just learned.

      • Sebastian Torres

I gave One Piece a try about 3 years ago, but then I never continued it and have been on episode 9 ever since. I enjoyed the show, and some friends want me to continue it, but I like being able to say “episode 9 and strong.” I play GTA V.

  13. Ashelin

Hi my name is Ashelin, I am in my last year and my major is liberal arts because I want to transfer to another school to do radiology. My academic interests is the internal anatomy body and how much can be unseen when looking at someone without knowing that their internal body can be dying slowly. I enjoy reading poetry and drama books. The music I listen to is mostly Latin music like Romeo Santos among others. As for TV and movies I prefer the genres action and drama. During my spare time I like to go to the gym go on walks and explore the city through food.
My opinion about math change drastically when I got older and started buying my own things and going shopping. The reason that this made me change the way that I thought about math it was because no I was able to go into stores I know what a 60% deduction from the original price match rather than before I had to wait till I got the cash register to know how much would be deducted. So for me personally percentage is probably one of the best things I’ve learned in math because it’s something that I use on a day-to-day basis when it comes to me buying food or going shopping for clothes. I’ve been with her for me learning about percentages I will probably still be confused on the price tag of when something is on sale. Overall math isn’t my favorite but it’s also not my least favorite subject.

  14. Keyla merino

Hey, my name is Keyla Merino this is my first year of college, my majoring is Computer Software Engineering. I choose this majoring because I want to learned how to develop new programs. I enjoy listen to music it keep me clam and relax. I like to watch a lot of Netflix series that included a lot of mystery. In my spare time I like to go to Domino park and watch the river or sometime I work.
Math was my favorite subject until in my freshman years on high school. Because it was a new teacher she know about math and everything the problems was that she did not how to explain so I was really lost on my math class. So I when to summer school to be able to learned about algebra 1 with other teacher. So I can be able to pass my algebra regents. l like math but if the teacher know how to explain I think that if you explain good and go step by step math is easy. This is why I hated and like math at the same time.

  15. muhammadmalik

My name is Muhammad Malik, and this is my first year in college. I just graduated high school and my major is computer systems info. I chose this major because I had taken a programming class in 11th grade and I really enjoyed it even though it could sometime be challenging. I felt as though I was being held back in my programming class due to my lack of math skills. Math used to be my favorite subject especially when I had a good teacher who would explain everything in detail and answer questions thoughtfully. It was one of the first classes that I had a 100% average throughout the year.

This was until I had moved onto the next school year and the teacher I had did not really care about what they taught the class and in the end, I stopped learning and no longer understood the material. Towards the beginning I had started teaching myself, but when there was no homework or challenges to complete I got lazy and ended up avoiding the class. In conclusion, math is only fun when you understand what is going on.

    • Sebastian Torres

I agree with your conclusion, and I also enjoyed programming when I was in high school but I wasn’t that good at it so hopefully, I can learn more this year and maybe even from you if I ever need help.

    • Omar

Hi Muhammad. I enjoy programming as well. I agree with you that sometimes it could be difficult, but it’s equally as fun and entertaining!

  16. Wasi

Hey guys my name is Wasi, this is my third semester at City Tech. I’m majoring in accounting and decided to do so because every business has a finansial side which to me is one of the best parts. Currently on Netflix I’m watching a variety of things like stand up comedy and old tv shows that for some reason I really get hooked to.
When it comes to math I can remember enjoying it when I was younger but at some point I began to lose interest in it. Thinking about it now I see I lost interest because I found it to be fun before.

  17. Rakib Hassan

Hey everyone, my name is Rakib Hassan, this will be my 3rd semester at City Tech. I’m currently a computer systems major. I am very passionate about music and videogames. When ever you see me you will see me with my headphones on listening to my favorite artists like Kendrick Lamar, Kanye, or 21 Savage. I also love playing videogames, I usually like first person shooter but the rampant cheating problem made me love it less. That’s why I wanted to become a computer systems major so I can became a data scientist to help create algorithms to make a good anti-cheat, especially since the new but scary cheats are AI based, these cheats are very new and they will damage the first person shooter genre. What is even scarier is that its undetectable under current anti-cheats since it can be ran on a secondary device.

I never had a bad opinion towards math, I can only recall when I was frustrated with myself making silly mistakes in my work and hating myself for it. I accepted my failures and mistakes because even though I may fail, I learn from my failures. Math started being my favorite subject when my highschool science teacher made these algorithms to detect and right down the notes from any instrument. It was the first time I saw math actually used for something like that, I was a firm believer that all you need is a 4th grade level of math to go by in life. My science teacher definitely changed my view on math.

    • rafid

Hey Rakib I truly agree with your anti-cheat issues one of the major reasons why i myself has also quit playing tons of games

  18. Darleny Morel

My name is Darleny Morel and this is my first year as it might be for most of us. My pronouns are she, her, and hers. My major is electrical engineering and I chose this major because I love math and science and my interest align well in this major. I enjoy reading and writing poetry, SciFi, and just anything really but those are my favorite. I love music and enjoy listening to everything especially Alternative, R&B, and rock music. I enjoy watching teen dramas, thrillers, and cartoons although I hardly watch TV anymore. In my spare time I do whatever entertains me that day, it may be hanging out with friends, meditating, or learning a new meal with my mom.

I chose topic one, and math was my favorite subject back in elementary school but I can’t remember that so I’m going to go with Algebra 2 junior year. I chose Algebra 2 because the teacher was so cool. But it wasn’t really about the teacher being cool or not even though your learning environment is important. She made me realize that nothing is hard at all really it’s just the way you learn it. In that class she took it step by step, always making sure everyone knew what they were doing, asking questions to really make us think, and always making sure the classroom was a safe place/space for all. I really liked that because most teachers don’t care but she make me want to try.

  19. rafid

My name is Rafid Hossain currently a junior going for my Bachelor’s degree. Growing up I have always tinkered around with my toys and it’s not just any usual tinkering I would disassemble the toys and then reassemble them, since then my love for technology grew and now you can say I am really tech-savvy. I aspire to be one of the best Engineers since I love building computers, diagnosing them, help as many people as I can with any technical issues they are having whether it’s hardware or software. Long story short I am heavily attached to technology. My other personal trait would be that people find me funny. I am very pleased to have you as my Professor, see you in the next class.

    1. I have hated math my entire life not only because I am bad at it but for some reason, math seems super complicated to me lot of people seem to say otherwise and I feel like if I really put my mind into it I can do it. I honestly hope one day I love math because my whole family is really good at math besides me which is kind of shocking.

  20. Adriel Handoko

My name is Adriel Handoko, this will be my second year at City Tech. I came to City Tech to major in computer engineering, I chose this major because I like troubleshooting computers, since I built my own and have had a few problems with it. It’s very satisfying to fix a problem and having a really good operation after the fix. In my free time, I like going to the gym and playing video games.

Math was never my favorite subject it may never be my favorite subject. I don’t like math because it was my weakest subject in school since I was a child , to get a decent grade I have to work pretty hard to try and understand everything. What I hate specifically about math is the number of steps there are for different types of problems, I have a hard time remembering steps usually. Even though I hate math it’s a decent part of my major so I have no choice but to try.

    • Kevin Yu

Heyyyyy I also built a couple of computers as well, I can relate to the problems and troubleshooting. You should read this webcomic called “System32comics” most of it is relatable to computers 😀

  21. Omar

Hi, my name is Omar. This is my fourth semester here at City Tech. I’m currently majoring in computer systems. I chose this major because I’ve always been interested in computers and technology in general, so naturally, I felt like I needed to major in this subject. My hobbies are reading and learning new things.
Math was never my favorite subject. During elementary and middle school, I always struggled with math because my teachers would teach at an incredibly high pace and I would never have a chance fully understand any topic in math. For a long time, I thought that it was the subject of math itself that was difficult, but as the years went by, I experienced better teaching methods than the ones I experienced before, and then realized that math itself wasn’t difficult, it was all dependent on the way it was being taught. Now, I feel completely indifferent about math.

  22. Kevin Yu

Hi! my name is Kevin Yu and I’m in my second year at City Tech and I chose Mechanical Engineering as my major since I thought mechanical engineering involved fixing cars or other things we use in our daily life but I come to find that it’s the total opposite and now I’m lost in what I want to do 🙁 I do like to read webtoons which is an app where you can create a webcomic and share your comic, I also like drawing and playing games.

I always thought that my work is a product and that I produce the product and be done with it and with that attitude I never really liked math and it is hard for me to take in the information and produce an answer that’s why I never liked math, even a math teacher made fun of me saying I was “afraid of large numbers” I think that incident made me dislike math, but when I go to history class I can pay attention more than math especially when its about war. Overall I never really liked math but I am always ready to take on a challenge and math is definitely on the list.

  23. Rabia Basri

Hi everyone, my name is Rabia Basri and I am 22 years old. This is my second year here at City Tech. My major is Technology Education. I am currently a full time student and a part time teacher assistant. I work in a private school that helps students with disabilities that a public school cant always provide. I love working with students that is why I am pursing a career in education. I also have a pandemic cat, her name is Aries and she is a mix of Persian and a Maine coon (tuxedo cat).

    I chose the first prompt:

Math is like a love hate relationship. There are many subjects that I enjoy doing. However, there are also many subjects that I dislike because I still don’t know how to do the problems. I really started math a lot in 5th – 10th grade, when trigonometry hit me that’s when I started disliking math. Hopefully with this class I am able to understand math better and not give up when the problems get challenging.

  24. Lensky

My name is Lensky Francois and this is my second year in City Tech and I had choose accounting as a major for my second year. I choose that major because it avoids fiances of business or organization. I enjoy watching basketball although I hardly watch TV anymore. My favorite book till this day is Diary and the Wimpy Kid. My favorite Music I like to listen to Is R&B. In my spare time I’m usually playing game or doing something active.

Math was my favorite 3rd to 5th grade because I was more entertaining . I use to like doing the little multiplication and division equation but after I started to go to different grades I started to dislike not cause it was difficult or anything it just that I didn’t have the passion that I use to have for it when i was younger.

  25. Andy

My Name is Andy Xu. I am majoring in computer-related. I choose this Major because I like using computers and like help teachers/students that need help with computers. During my free time, I like to play video games and also watch youtube videos.

Math was ever my favorite subject, ever since in 8th grade where the math felt easy and solving problems quickly until there it started to become harder, more complex words and having to remember more stuff compare to 8th grade.

    • Amani

I think it’s pretty cool that you’re majoring in something computer related. I considered that option for a while. Have you ever taken a web design class? It has to do a little more with coding, but I highly recommend it. (: Also, what video games do you play?

  26. aroni

Hello everyone, my name is Aroni Dola. This is my 3rd semester at City Tech.Currently I am majoring in Computer Information System. But I’m not interested about this subject at all. It’s not my thing also I’m confused about which subject I actually like.So I randomly picked this major.I am an introvert.I love to being alone.I love to read poetry and stories. Currently my favorite book is “The universe in you” by Rumi. I love to explore different restaurants. Also currently on Netflix I’m watching “The Vampires Diaries” its my third time watching this show I’m obsessed with it.After watching this show I was very curious about vampires, do they really exist or not. So,I had some research about that, I did talk with so many people who believes in vampires.I am very curious about paranormal activities.I do believe in ghosts also I do love to visit at haunted house or whatever related to ghosts.

When I was younger I love to do math.It was my favorite subject because if you have the basic knowledge it won’t take that long to solve it.Some part of math I really liked such as middle term, logarithm, geometry. But when it’s come to trigonometry I hate math.So I’m in the middle of love and hate for math.

  27. Amani

Hello class, my name is Amani. This is my second semester with City Tech. I enjoy listening to music, playing video games, shopping, cooking, and overall, enjoying people’s company. I do enjoy relaxing and binge watching shows as well. Trying new experiences is also one of my favorite things. My major is actually Math Education/Applied Mathematics. Growing up, I was already set on becoming a math teacher. Math is one of the subjects that I used to tutor people in.

Math was always my favorite. It was the easiest for me. What I’ve grown to understand is that if early stages of math, such as, pre-algebra, wasn’t fully mastered, people tend to have a harder time moving forward. That is due to the fact math builds on itself. It’s one new concept on top of the other and if it wasn’t previously understood, it’s harder to build on.

    • Amani

I also believe that the instructor affects the way you comprehend a subject. So for me, I had a not so great Trig teacher. He was never there to help or explain to his students and that really bothered me. Everyone learns differently. Some people are more hands-on, while some are visual learners and that was something I always took into consideration especially when tutoring. Just because something is explained one way, doesn’t mean everyone will understand it that way.

Hi everyone, my name is Kaycie. I am a transfer student so this is my first semester at City Tech. I live in Brooklyn with my mother and my twin sister. I love listening to music, baking, and spending time with my two cats, Phoenix and Brooklyn. My major is liberal arts with a concentration in African American studies.

What I realized about myself is that math is my favorite subject as long as I know what I’m doing. As funny as that sounds, it’s very true because when I know what I’m doing, it is actually very fun and I don’t consider it work at all. However, when I don’t know what I’m doing, math is not fun at all and it seems like I can never figure it out no matter how hard I try. I hope that this class I know what I’m doing or figure it out along the way.

  29. Mhmoud Moawad

My name is Mhmoud Moawad, I was born in Brooklyn but I moved to Staten island sophomore year of high school. For those three years of high school I went to New Drop HS. its right next to South beach. I am majoring in Electro-Mechanical engineering and am a sophomore. My hobbies are soccer, video games, and reading.

Math was never my strongest subject. I was never able to find that interest in it like other people do but I also don’t mind it. I would like to think I’m decent at it in my eyes you basically just got to memories equations and learn how to do them the hard part is the memorization.
