My research question is how has the pandemic affected Asian American women?
I would like to convey that sometimes hate crimes are not reported. By not talking about it, racist acts continue. The audience I am trying to reach is everyone. The op-ed format seems to me to be a perfect format for expressing my thoughts that are genuine and personal. It is intimidating to put myself out there for judgment like that. I know racism exists in every corner of the world. I would like to begin my project by exploring potential information and digging deeper into history with the idea that there’s a reason or story behind all that is going on. However, I am concerned about not being able to convey my message clearly to the audience. I can not think of any tittle for now but i might come up with one after the research.
Hey Sangay nice propsal and I really like how your making an effort to spread awarness on the racism against Asian American women. However, I feel like your audience is too broad. I’m saying this because not everyone in the world discriminates against Asian American Women. I’m not against the idea of spreading the word but I feel like you can focus on a certain area or a group of people that target Asian American women. However, it is entirely up to you on weather or not you want to incorperate my idea into your own op-ed.
Sangay:
A thoughful proposal. I too find it hard to stand up and “put myself out there” even when it’s a topic that concerns people like me. I am being asked to share my own writing for a faculty Asian project and guess what? I found myself hanging back and thinking should I really share my writing. Do I want to expose myself? I needed a push from my fellow teaching colleagues, and I did submit my writing. It is based on the letter I wrote in the Unit 3 Genre Assignment under Option To WRite a Letter. You can look at the letter I wrote as an example. I will also post a student example on this topic. Previous Asian students in ENG 1101 chose to use the genre of letter and I will post those student examples on my new Genre Project Resouces pages soon. Anti-Asian violence/attacks during the pandemic and anytime is a serious and important issue. We need to speak up!
I think it’s ok to say everyone here because this is a topic that is currently happening and so it is in the news and everyone should know about this. YOu can share a unique perspective because YOU ARE AN ASIAN WOMAN. All Americans need to know about these racial tensions because it is EVERYONE who needs to change and know that we Asians are Americans and we are humans. We are not germs, or sex objects, or whatever objects that people use to belittle us. Everyone needs to change their mindset and learn to live with each other in peace. We are a diverse country and we are becoming even more diverse. Americans have to learn to respect and live with each other. Your unique perspective will help everyone understand what an Asian women feels when she is being attacked or when women like her are attacked. Again you have every right to stand up and speak so everyone will know and stop feeling hatred or animosity toward Americans of Asian descent.
PS Please do read and study my letter example in the Unit 3 Assignment. Let me know what you think of my ideas. I would be curious to know.
YOu should be working on an outline of the points you want make in your op-ed. That would be a next step.
Best,
Prof. Wu
Wow, After reading your project proposal I also think that racism is everywhere around the world. I like how you mentioned that nobody ever talks about this and race continues to happen. I have to say that is so true. I think you’ll do great on the Op-ed piece.
