RAB Proposal Paragraph – Mamadu Jalloh

My research question is: How has the CV pandemic impacted and changed the Muslim community around the world? This topic interests me because my family are Muslim and I personally experienced changes in their lifestyles. Though the whole world was impacted by Covid-19 it is evident that Minorities and poor people were most impacted. This is crucial because one third of of the Muslims in America live at or below the poverty line. Moreover, 28% of Muslims identifying as Black or African American. This is important because data shows black Americans are dying from Covid-19 at a disproportionately higher rates. I already know that Muslims had to change their ways of worship as they couldn’t have gatherings in mosque to perform prayer. Moreover, Muslims couldn’t celebrate their holy holiday “EID” as large gatherings were prohibited. Some points that I plan to explore and find out more about are the role of Muslim Americans in frontline jobs that puts them and their families at risk. Furthermore, I want to focus on Muslims response against Covid and how they managed to work around it.
