PROMPT: We have been reading about writers who saved themselves by learning to read and write. Malcolm X saved himself by copying the dictionary to improve his vocabulary and outsmarting the prison guards to read deep into the night; Douglass saved himself by bribing little white boys to teach him and by reading a book “Columbian Orator” that shed light on the institution of slavery; Olivarez saved himself by writing poems that expressed his difficult emotional experience as a Mexican American teen.
In your educational journey, what experience has saved you? Describe this difficult moment in your journey.  How exactly did you save yourself?  What strategies did you use? What lessons have your learned from your actions and how have you shared them with others?
