Writing Task Saved – Jade Daley

After covid high school felt very different since most people haven’t seen each other in a while it felt like everyone grew distant. I kept to myself very often but I also wanted to make connections with others so I decided to join key club. Key Club gave meaning and purpose to my high school experience because it allowed me to come across different types of people and develop more relationships that I didn’t expect. I became involved after a teacher who manages the club convinced me to join it since I didn’t do sports. One thing I liked about Key Club is that it allowed me to help others through the events we would host or the food drives that we organized for those who needed them. It was fun putting together events that allowed people to socialize. It changed me by allowing me to be more outgoing and more interactive with people I didn’t know.

Key Club changed my attitude towards school because I had something to look forward to and I also had a position in the club which motivated me to keep showing up. I also learned that I enjoy helping others in need throughout my experience in this club. I appreciated that it allowed me to build a relationship with a teacher who always looked out for me since. Some skills I gained were communication and leadership skills since I had to put myself out there more.

  1. Hi Jade, It’s good that you did something to give back and felt motivated to go to school! Would you say that these types of clubs should be a necessity in every school? Also Socializing can be hard when not involved in any sport or clubs so I understand If this club changed you as a person.

  2. Notice that you are doing a lot of telling.  Instead SHOW ME!

You write: One thing I liked about Key Club is that it allowed me to help others through the events we would host or the food drives that we organized for those who needed them. OK! SO SHOW ME one of these food drives! SHOW me the “fun putting together” this event – HOW did you work with others? WHAT did you do? WHERE was the event? WHO came? Reach back into your memory an d SHOW me how you helped a particular person – one of the “others in need” who remains in your memory. WHAT did you cook? MAKE this food drive come alive – CREATE THEATRE OF THE MIND –
