“I have high faith that you will find your way.”
These words were said by my mother and I still carry them with me to this day. This specific time was my senior year of high school and my emotions were very high trying to figure things out on my own. The thick aroma of my mothers cooking was in the air as I sat on a stool in the kitchen with the common app tab opened. She could always tell whenever I was down which encouraged her to ask me what was wrong. I explained to her that I was having a hard time picking schools and a career. She sat next to me and told me it’s okay to be confused and lost and everything will come together and work out in due time. I instantly broke down because in that moment that was all I needed to hear to help decompress all the stress that I had built up.
As the first one in immediate family to go to college I was having hard time doing things on my own. My mother tried to help me as best as she could but it was all very new to her as well so I couldn’t get much help out of her since she never experienced this chapter in life before. She always pushed me to be successful and make a way for myself since she couldn’t achieve everything she wanted. I use our story as motivation to keep going whenever I feel overwhelmed in life. My mom has always inspired me to never give up and her support impacts me tremendously. I now know things will workout on its own no matter how much you stress about it.
Hi Jade honestly I can relate to you a lot. I also struggled with picking the school/college to go to. There were a bunch of schools to choose from. I did know what I wanted to do in my life, what I wanted to study, what career I wanted to have. The problem I had though was how to start that career, and how to be able to achieve my goal. I am also the first one in my family to go to college since my siblings are younger than me. But as for my aunts/uncles and far away cousins in that sense I am not the first one to go to college since they have gone and studied and felt the experience of college. My parents also tried helping me with the whole process of college like the applications and the financial aid and everything else such as graduation stuff. It is still quite hard and there is still some stuff that I don’t really understand but there is help/support around us. Your support would be your mother mine would be my parents but also my cousins. It is important to have faith in life like you said.
Good writing here.
It’s impressive that you are the first in your family to go to college. It’s not easy path to be the first of anything and you need support. It sounds like your mother is an important support and postive influence in your life. What is her backstory — did she have to work in a family business or did she grow up in another country where education was not widely availble to everyone? How does she
Do these words from your mother still echo in your mind? Was there a difficult time in your school life when her words helped you out? — OR — How does she help you in your school life?
