Tip 1: This tip personally speaks to me because participating was something I really lacked in highschool. I would get scared that my answer would be wrong and I would be scared to speak up. In highschool when I wouldn’t participate as much understanding the material became very hard for me. I believe if I would have participated and spoken up more I wouldn’t have had such a hard time understanding the work. In college I hope to speak up way more and engage in class discussions. In college participating will both help my professor and myself. Participating will show my professor where I stand in any class discussion and shows I’m listening.
Tip 2: Finding study skills that work for me is a tip I plan on using since it will help me focus and make studying more efficient. When I was in high school studying, I was reading over the study guide multiple times until I remembered it. As a result I would get bad test results. I then started using index cards to help me study and going to the library to do my studying. I felt that being in an environment where I won’t get distracted works best for me, as well as listening to music but with no lyrics so I can focus better. In college when it comes to studying I plan to take it way more seriously and use websites where I can build my own quiz so it can help me study even better. In high school I would struggle studying for a long period of time, but I found it easier when I would reward myself every hour or thirty minutes that I study which is what I plan to do when I am studying for tests.
Hey Diana I understand you for tip 2. I never really knew how to study or knew how to take it seriously. I would lose focus or get bored but I have learned that studying with someone helps me.
Hey Diana, when it comes to tip 1 I completely understand you. Participating in class was one of my weak points in school because of fear of not getting the right answer. Knowing that participating is one of the best ways to understand a subject trying to be open about it is really important.
I agree, participation is something I also struggle with. I hope that I get more comfortable speaking up.
