RAB Proposal Paragraph – Davina

My research question is, “How does a single-parent household affect child development. What are the pros and cons of a single-parent household. This topic interests me because I am currently the single parent of a 2 year old little girl. I often wonder if her father’s absence in the household would impact her negatively as she grows up. I grew up in a two-parent household, so I wouldn’t be able to understand the dynamics of a single-parent household. I already know that single-parents struggle more raising children than a two-parent household. I know that this can greatly affect a child’s development, both parents contribute what the other parent can’t. I know that the way a father treats their daughter is very crucial to how a daughter will eventually choose a partner. Some points that I plan to explore and find out more about: How does single-parent households affect child development? What are the pros of being a single mother, if they are any? How can I help my child learn the things she would learn if her father was present?

  1. Your RQ seems personal and I would like to share that growing up with a single parent made me idolize my mother, because I would see the sacrifices and hard work she went through. Personally, I would consider that a pro just because supporting yourself can be difficult but with children that is just admirable.
