“Woke Brands”-hbomberguy
YouTuber “hbomberguy” uses the absurdity of lying around in packaging from popular brands to hook the audience in. He then uses a sarcastic tone, which might confuse the audience, but then solves that problem by connecting it to his central idea. In terms of research, this creator combines his knowledge from past education, quotes from relevant influential figures, and real time advertisements to properly show what he’s saying. He incorporates storytelling by literally using a chronological style of story telling, where he starts with the history of advertising and brands, and how they’ve developed into whatever they’re doing today. Also, he uses a lot of attention-grabbing images and sounds, as if he himself is advertising something, which he basically is with the creation of a video essay. The entire video is 26 minutes and 43 seconds. The primary audience is the vast majority of people who use YouTube, specifically his 5 Million subscribers. Its mostly teenage/young adult/adult audiences with his use of language and mature content shown, though.
The video ends with hbomberguy delivering a personal message and his own thoughts. He says that “there are better, less invasive, more genuine ways of getting your product out there to people”, in which he then advertises a footage company that he uses locally as a creator. I think the message he’s trying to portray is that modern companies are trying too hard to seem progressive, when really they’re just trying to find the most modern way to sell to their consumers. I plan to emulate his video making style with media memes and somewhat fast pacing, because that’s already my style with making media. I’ll avoid getting too explicit like he is, and try not to replicate the length of one of his average videos.
