My research question is: What role has slavery played in the American prison system? This topic interests me because I am a deeply interested in the lingering After-Math of Slavery and the mental and social effects it still has on America. The, Whole History of African’s and African-American’s has always been interesting to me, As an African-American Male I felt an undying passion to always learn more about the Justice System and How People Of Color are Impacted. Also, Finding new stuff about slavery everyday that my ancestors possibly went through is heartbreaking and i believe that people should never forget. I believe that there should be some form of reparations for family’s that had direct lineage to the Unfortunate People who were considered “Property” . I already know that Slavery is still deeply ingrained in America. A Good Example of that is Systemic Racism which is aimed to still treat people of color as if they are below every other race. I also am Aware that When it comes to black People in the Prison System, It gets Swept Under the Rug and People are Usually Told to get Over it. Some point’s that I plan to explore and find out more about are Statistics from the New York District Attorney Office and the Ratio for the people Incarcerated to how much people were innocent. I, Also plan to explore court Cases and Documentaries regarding the Ever Lasting Effects Of Slavery and how it effects the American Prison System.
