Philosophy Statement

Philosophy of Nursing

My philosophy is that nurses should provide holistic care to all patients. It is our duty to treat each patient with respect, and be culturally sensitive and aware of their needs. Nurses are to provide competent care, while considering the safety and well-being of each client they encounter. Nurses should be honest, and compassionate while remembering to be advocates for their clients at all times.

My belief, is that nurses should strive to do good, or right by all their patients. Doing good because you want to, and not for the praise and recognition of others. Taking the opportunity to give your time, and skills for the receivers well-being. To establish a relationship that builds trust with all patients encountered. Building trust allows for a flow of communication between the nurse and client, and builds rapport. I value the ideas of theorist Jean Watson for she believed that human beings should be valued, cared for, and respected.

My goal, is for nurses to ensure optimal patient care that considers the patient’s social, emotional, cultural, and physical needs. Nurses should expand upon their education by continuing to investigate theories, and the implementation of techniques designed to improve patient care. Also, nurses should create and maintain a environment that fosters creativity and encourages personal and professional growth.
