BUF 4700: Contemporary Issues in Fashion

This senior-level seminar explores specialized topics within the fashion industry, guided by weekly readings, research, and in-depth discussions. Each semester focuses on different themes, culminating in a final paper and presentation.

The course examines contemporary challenges faced by designers, merchandisers, product developers, and consumers in the lifecycle of fashion—from creation to disposal. Emphasis is placed on sustainability, globalization, ethical practices, and socially responsible manufacturing. The goal is to foster critical dialogue and encourage thoughtful engagement with the social and environmental impacts of fashion.
