In class writing activity based on Reeves, Climate Change Theatre is LIT

  1. Pessimism: Write down five reasons why a person might not participate in a public action or performance to combat the climate crisis.  Leave three blank lines below the each reason.
  2. Hand in your writing to the instructor.
  3. Optimism: meditate on on an image of natural beauty from your past, or a vision of a place that has been restored. Focus on the details of the picture in your mind. How does the place smell? Breathe. What sounds do you hear? What living beings are in your imaginary place? Try to mentally complete a 360 degree image of the place.
  4. The instructor will shuffle and redistribute the papers so that you have one of your classmate’s pessimism. For each reason for not taking action, compose an answer as someone who wants to preserve the image in your mind.
  5. Read the Reeves article.
  6.  Compare answers and discuss.
