Podcast prompt/blog

The podcast I listened to was “East New York. Did it work?”. The podcast in my opinion was very well put together. They didn’t prolong the intro or talked a lot but got straight to the point which i believe is one of the things that is essential in keeping your listeners drawn in. They also did a great job getting people to share their stories and expressing their opinions and they were all different opinions which made it more interesting and not bias. This podcast brought together facts and evidence as well as opinions to make it not only on filled with primary sources but also one that is relate-able .

There Goes the Neighborhood – Our Town

After listening “There Goes the Neighborhood – Our Town”, I understand better of how to make a podcast. I think they are doing a good job on their podcast because the podcast is running so smooth. the podcast use a question, information, and conclusion technique to make the podcast. the beginning of the podcast is well done too, it used an important question to attract the listener curiosity or interest. I think I also can do a podcast like what they did, starting with an interesting question or information, then just shoot out question, information, and answer.

Podcast Assignment

The podcast I listened to was “THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD: EAST NEW YORK, DID IT WORK?” and what I think about the speaker’s job on this podcast is that he did well by communicating the neighbors’ ideas by interviewing them and giving them a few minutes to express themselves about all changes made in their neighborhood. In this interview, the interviewers recalled to the time they felt safe in their neighborhood and that these changes leave them with doubt about their future, however, they hope for the better. What I liked about this podcast is that this is a primary source with reliable information since all this is given by people who reside in the area, they have seen all the changes and how is affecting and/or benefiting them.

Podcast Assignment

I chose to listen to “East New York, Did It Work?” podcast. I really like this podcast because it shows the people who live in Atlantic Yards neighborhood opinions about the changes that are happening in this area and the cost of housing generally. First, they started the discussion about the gentrification and explained the changes that are happening in East New York. Then, they started to interview the people who live in this area and listen to their point of view about these changes. Some people are talking about the history of the changes that happened in their neighborhood and explaining how these changes impacting them. It seems to me that a lot of people who live in this neighborhood are not happy with that change. Every speaker gave a different point of view. I really like their brief reviews because they all focused on a lot of good points about these changes and how they feel now about their neighborhood. And that could be very beneficial for everyone who does not know a lot of information about the Atlantic Yards neighborhood history.

What do you think the speakers and interview subjects did particularly well to communicate their ideas? What questions do you still have, or what do you think they could have explained better? Feel free to link to 1-2 of your favorite podcasts if you regularly listen to ones you want to share.

After listening to “East New York, Did it Work?”, I have found that the speakers are very clear in their explanation and are short and to the point. One thing he did well is adding in specific statistics about Phipps Houses and interviewing a city counsel representative, Raphael Espinal and finding out that there is mainly affordable housing plans put into place. One question I have is that how are the scouts picking and choosing which properties to flip when they are either owned by another owner, or being resided by another tenant, and what can those people do in order to fight back the gentrification fight.

The podcast was very rewarding to listen too. The speaker had a lot of information and worked with it really well yo get the point across clear and consiece. The was a strong focus on community that I really loved because not many podcast dive into it and are mostly used for a entertainment aspect but here the podcast is being used as a information source to help people understand the game that everyone plays in new developments

I believe the speaker did well in getting firsthand accounts by the people and using that to build on top of the facts that explains why Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Rezoning plan works. The speakers speak about the pleasant new parks and bars and new schools to serve communities. In contrast the speakers speak about gentrification and the scammers that influenced foreclosures in the neighborhood. Pros vs Con clearly advocating that the mayor’s plan works in certain cases and doesn’t work in other cases. Besides the Excitement of the people how else does the plan help the community. There was only account of a new school being constructed and only a ¼ a building serve as a legitimate affordable housing (By legitimate I mean the amount of people in a current neighborhood that can actually afford to live there). It seems to me like the opinion of the plan not working has more powerful reasoning’s behind it where as its con was not advocated enough.
