folksonomy

Posted on March 6, 2013 by Robert Taylor

Taxonomy refers to a standard search engine such as Google, which uses search-bots to look for preloaded classification. It uses a more rigid structure when trying acquire the user requested search. It is conindered a more vocabulary base search option. Folksonomy on the other hand allows a person to place tags on data so that in the future it can be retrieved more easily. Folkonomy is considered a more flexible way to search, because the tags can be  customize to how the user think. Also there are websites such as  del.icio.us and Digg.com that allow users with similar interest to browse your tagged data and visa-versa. These sites further promote the faster exchange of information. The thing about creating these tag is that you are creating additional data known as metadata. I couldn’t help but to harken back to Big Data when after reading this article.
