If so, you or your child may be among the millions of Americans who now have a condition called dental fluorosis. Fluorosis is a defect of tooth enamel caused by too much fluoride intake during the first 8 years of life. Although fluorosis can be cosmetically treated, the damage to the enamel is permanent.

How to avoid Dental Fluorosis ?

Begin using toothpaste with fluoride when the child is 2 years old. Use toothpaste with fluoride earlier if your child’s doctor or dentist recommends it. Supervise your child’s tooth brushing, encouraging the child to spit out toothpaste rather than swallow it.
