About Kiara Camacho

I am a storyteller and designer who also happens to be fascinated by research. As I endeavor to develop innovative answers to design challenges, I thoroughly research every component that goes into the solution. Every piece of the design is carefully considered to aid the story.

Learning Log #4

These are my favorite photos because the last 2 give me a sense of depth while the first one gives me a more sassy, irrelevant vibe that I really like. I’ve worked with the equipment before in my last photography class but never outside so some of this was new to me but it was fun to work with. At some points my speedlight was too powerful and then the natural sunlight would come in and obscure my photos a bit so me and my partners had to adjust our arpeture, our ISO and even the speedlight.

HW #3 Photoville

The photo that I chose was taken by a photographer Lee, Seok Hoon. She was working in the middle east as part of a rescue crew and was around dead bodies and after removing a body she felt the need to take a picture to remind her of life and beauty. This was my first time at photoville and it was honestly exciting for me, seeing all these pictures and reasons that people too was so amazing. I looked at photos assuming one story and read something completely different.

Learning Log 3

When choosing my photos I honestly felt awkward taking the photos so I decided to just walk and take pictures rather than waiting around for something to happen. I am quite pleased with my photos and I enjoyed myself and seeing what people do on their day to day journeys, especially around dumbo.

Learning Log #2

When it came to taking these pictures, i had taken into consideration what the Professor had said about the light. I had to focus on where the light was coming from and angle the reflector towards it, especially since the sun was slightly limited. In some cases I also had my models aiming their faces in the opposite direction of the reflector so that I could obtain more light on one side. What was helpful was that one of my partners had a light meter app on their phone that helped with camera adjustments.

Homework 1

This photo was taken by Jeremy Cowart. He started off as a graphic designer and became a self taught photographer in order to bring texture into his work. It was then that he found his passion for photography and has turned it into a full time career. With his photos Cowart fills his frames and follows the rule of thirds while creating depth and using contrast for his amazing textures in his photos. For some of his photos he will keep the subject centered but he would fill the frame making sure that the background isn’t taking too much off the subject. However for the rest of his photos he will follow the rule of thirds and use a little but of leading room and slot of contrast in order to make his pictures pop which has earned him so recognition from figures and companies. What makes this image my favorite is the colors of the image and how the image placed on top of the woman gives a more added effect to her beauty with the shadows and highlights that enhances her features.

Piss Christ, Decency-Standard laws

“Piss Christ”

By Andres Serrano

1987

This is a picture taken by Andres Serrano in the year 1987. The picture itself is of a cross submerged in Serranos’ own urine in which his original intention was not to cause offense to anyone of christian/catholic faith. The color is not just what caught my attention due to the immensely dark yellow of the fluid but of the contrast and how light hits christ directly in a dramatic fashion. The subject of the image fills the frame and has nothing else to distract the viewers attention from it. Interestingly enough this photo caused some controversy as it angered a priest and and many others and was the reason for the decency-standard laws that were upheld by the supreme court in 1998.
