A Communication Design Portfolio

For this project, I had to create four figure-ground compositions based on curiosity. The first thing I did was create a mind map that showed different words relating to our curiosity. Then, after picking two subjects, I had to draw thumbnail sketches for different composition ideas and refine them. After that, I chose the four designs that I liked the most, one stable composition and one ambiguous composition for each subject, and created the final piece and labeled them appropriately.
I really enjoyed the process of this project and found it fun to come up with ideas on how to express my chosen subjects visually. While working on this project, I learned about two types of figure-ground compositions. There is stable, which consists of a figure element that is clear and separate from the ground, and ambiguous, which consists of an unclear distinction between the figure and ground.

For this project, I had to create grids with different color palettes using only three colored pencils: red, blue, and brown. Then we had to create a still life drawing using the same three colors, then I had to create my own landscape drawing, then recreate a landscape done by another artist. Late on I created grids to see how mixing paint changes color, then produced painted versions of our landscape, each one was more zoomed in than the last.
During the process of this project, I learned about color and how different hues, saturation, and values can be created through mixing. I also learned about different types of color palettes, like analogous, and complementary.
