Michael Wiehart is a motion design artist, editor, and animator. He’s worked with many companies like Reebok, Disney, and USA Today. He works with software like Cinema 4D, Adobe After Effects, and Unity. Michael began his career in Switzerland. At the time, Macs and PCs weren’t even available, so he either had to create his own computer and software, or use massive computers in an office. At that time, he worked on a 2-million-dollar computer; one of only two in the country. When he moved to the United States, he actually had to get approval from the Department of Defense to bring his computer since it was considered “military grade” at the time. Thankfully, it’s a little easier for Michael to work. He does not have a brand-new computer system with the latest specs; he prefers using his 7-year old MacBook. To ensure top-quality animation and design, he rents a cloud computer and space; this way, he can render all his projects in top quality. To get to the level of mastery that he has gotten, Michael had to put multiple hours to learning the software he uses. In his career, Michael has worked 80 hours a week, split amongst professional work and personal side projects. He also swears on the famous “10,000 hour” rule when it comes to really getting the hang on a project. Of course, a motion design career has its faults; money isn’t always certain and looming deadlines can be stressful, but Michael wakes up every morning happy with his career. Michael hates the idea of “assembly line” work and this career has always brought something different to the table. He’s motivated and excited to create art and animation, which is something he’s thankful for. Â
