  • However, these two books are recommended, if you are further interested in urban sociology.

Grades

  • Final letter grades will be computed as follows:
    • Midterm and final exams: 25%×2 = 50%
      o Individual project: Learning about Downtown Brooklyn
      ▪ Four short writing assignments: 10%×4=40%
      o Class participation & attendance: 10%
  • Grade Scale and Letter Grade
A 93-100 B 83-86.9 C 70-76.9
A- 90-92.9 B- 80-82.9 D 60-69.9

Mid-term and final exams

Mid-term and final exams (short answers )

There are mid-term and final exams (short answers). Students will have 7-8 short answer questions in class.

Midterm exam will be held on October 20 and final exam will be on December 15.   

Individual Project: Downtown Brooklyn

    • Assignment 1-4, 40%
    • Students are required to write four short writing assignments about Downtown Brooklyn by focusing on the past and the present of the neighborhood from a predominantly Jewish neighborhood to a Black neighborhood to a gentrified neighborhood with luxurious condos and shops.
