Final Exam Post

Hey everyone, the final exam is happening soon!  I hope things go smoothly for you.  Here are some important things to note:

1. Here’s the link to the final exam WebWork site.  It’s not the same as the homework site.

2. Your login is firstname.lastname.  Your password is your student ID.  I’ve found that copying and pasting your login and ID don’t always work.  What worked the best was typing in your login, and typing in your ID.  My apologies to those of you with long names!

3. You must upload a pdf with the written work in a timely manner.  You have 30 minutes after the exam closes.

4. Your submission must include 1 page for each problem on the exam, whether you attempt to solve it or not.  If you leave it blank, then leave it blank, but have a page and number for it.

5. Your pdf submission must have the questions in number order.

6. Your file name is only your last name first name and 1 or 2 (indicating the first or second attempt).  Example: “Baskin Carole 1.pdf” and “Baskin Carole 2.pdf”

7. If rules 3, 4, 5, and 6 are not followed, you will get points off.

8. You have 2 attempts at this exam, with 2 tries per attempt.  If you plan on taking 2 attempts, your first attempt must be on Thursday and your second attempt must be on Friday.  If you make your first attempt on Friday, then that will be your only attempt.

Good luck!  I’ll be on Blackboard tomorrow morning (8am – 11:40am) and Friday morning (8am – 11:40am).

Final Exam Procedure

Hey everyone, I’ve sent an email on the final exam procedures, but I’m posting it here too since it’s important.  There is a FAQ posted the files section.  These were produced by the department.  Please read through that and ask me any additional questions you have.

Your login and password, as well as the link to the Final Exam WebWork site (which is not the same as our homework site) will be emailed to you.  The email address will be whichever email you have on CUNYFIRST.  I have no control over this and I also do not know your login and password.  The only way you can get into it is by accessing your email that is on CUNYFIRST.  MAKE SURE YOU ARE ABLE TO ACCESS THE EMAIL IN YOUR CUNYFIRST FILE.

The final exam will open on Thursday, 5/21/2020 at 12:00am and close Friday, 5/22/2020 at 11:59pm.  You are allowed 2 attempts at submitting the same exam, and 2 exams within the 48-hour period.  There is a 24-hour waiting period between exams.  This means if you plan on taking the exam twice, your first attempt should be on Thursday 5/21.

For grading, I’ve decided on making WebWork worth 25% and the written work worth 75%, with no oral conference.

FINAL EXAM RULES

The final exam must be taken on WebWork, with the written work uploaded to your Dropbox folder within 2.5 hours of your start time.  Late submissions will result in points lost at a rate of 10 points per hour on the written portion.

For the exam submissions, they must be 1 PROBLEM PER PAGE, with your full name, date, and student ID on top of EACH PAGE.  Submissions must be 1 single .pdf file with problems listed in number order.  Make sure your writing is clear.  You may rewrite your problems after your exam is done, but keep in mind that if your submission is late, you will get points deducted.

Submissions must be named with your full name, last name first. Please do not put any dots, commas, underscores or anything else in between your names.  Only 1 space please.  Please also indicate which attempt the submission is for, 1 or 2.  If you only attempt the final exam once (which I do not recommend), you don’t have to put a number after your name.

For example, if King Dedede takes the final, he will submit his written work as Dedede King.pdf.

Another example, if Zan Partizanne takes the final, she will submit her written work as Partizanne Zan.pdf.

If you attempt the exam twice, you must submit the written work for each exam.  Meta Knight will submit his work as Knight Meta 1.pdf and Knight Meta 2.pdf.

Failure to follow these rules will result in points deducted.

Exam #3 Oral Conference, Monday 5/11/2020

Hey all, exams are graded, so please look at your pdf submission for the grade on the written work.  I’ve made a sign up sheet for the oral conference for the third exam.  Conferences will be on the upcoming Monday, May 11 from 9am – 2:30pm.  Just like last time, conference times will be 5 minutes long.

Test #3, 5/5/2020

Hello all,

I’ll be here tomorrow on Blackboard from 8am – 12:30pm.  Come visit here if you have any exam questions.

https://us.bbcollab.com/guest/1ff175c83a9242febd4d0dd8b8a52201

Same rules as before:

1. Take the exam on webwork.  You have 2 hours, 10 minutes within 8am – 12:30pm.  Make sure you start the exam before 10:20am to allow yourself the maximum time.  READ THE DIRECTIONS AND HINTS!  Some problems require you to round to the nearest thousandth, some require you to input your answer as fractions or radicals (ie. exact answers only).

2. Hit “Grade Test” before the exam closes at 12:30pm.  Do this only once.

3. Upload your written work as a pdf file to your Dropbox folder.  Like always, use your first initial, last name, date (05-05-2020), test 3.  Please do not put any spaces anywhere.

4. Once I grade them, I’ll post a date for our 5-minute video conference.

Good luck and make sure your calculator is in DEGREES mode before you begin the exam!

Online Tutoring

Hey all, I’ve been hearing from some of you that seem to be struggling with trigonometry, or math in general.  There’s help!

https://openlab.citytech.cuny.edu/mathdepartmenttutoring/free-online-math-tutoring/

Here is a comprehensive list of the online tutoring options that the college is offering.  Attendance is low, so you should be able to get a time slot of your choice.  Please take advantage of this free service!

Exam Scores are Posted

Hi guys, exam #2 scores are posted.  They are located in the comments section of your pdf file in dropbox.

Test corrections are permitted, with the rules being the same as before.  Do the corrections with a tutor, and have the tutor email me at bkan@citytech.cuny.edu confirming that you attended tutoring to do a test correction.  Look at the “Points Back Spring 2020 Online” file for instructions.

If you got points taken off because your pdf file is not named correctly, fix it and I will give you the points back.  Take this opportunity to change all your files according the  rules in my other blog post entitled “DROPBOX ETIQUETTE.”

In the files section, I will also post an example of an Exam #2 done using the methods we used in class.

As always, don’t hesitate to email me with questions or concerns.  I am trying to be flexible and sensitive to all your needs, but at the end of the day I am your teacher and will not be taken advantage of.

Professor Kan

PS: All homework sets are open until 4/14, 3pm.
