I am very satisfied and enjoyed my internship. 3D model building is something I’ve always wanted to do that takes my imagination and becomes a visual being. At work, I learned the way to communicate with people and the effective nature of communication. Because, I’ve always been an introvert, and I’m somewhat afraid of communicating with other people. Therefore, this internship changed my introverted personality a bit. During my internship, I learned more about the Blender software, which made me realize the importance of other modeling software such as Maya, 3D Max, and Unity. For me, this internship has been very rewarding.

During my internship these days, I have also been continuously completing some 3D models. However, facing graduation I need to complete my Senior Project which is a 2D animation. Therefore, I need to manually draw the animation to complete each frame. This situation caused me some scheduling troubles. My schedule at the time couldn’t accommodate me juggling work, senior project, and other homework balances which resulted in slower progress on the internship. Therefore, I re-negotiated the working hours with my person in charge, and he understood my current situation. In the end, my job lead time became two weeks to deliver a finished 3d model.

Some changes have taken place in my work responsibilities. Currently, my job has changed to building some small props for the game scene. The person in charge told me that the model of the small skeleton can be temporarily suspended because the production of the prop model of the game scene needs to be completed as soon as possible. So, I was temporarily transferred from the prop model making. The construction of the game prop model is very different from the model of the small skeleton. It required me to style the props first which gave me a different experience.

In the past, I have used another’s creative work mostly to deliver homework that does not require making original designs. In terms of giving credit to the original creators, I always leave a note under the homework I submitted specifying where I acquired the design from. I understand how important to leave credits to the original designers for their hard work because I am the type of person who strives to come up with original designs without having to refer to other people’s works. I would probably be upset if other people directly used my designs and claim it’s theirs.

The outcome of Mr. Fairey’s case is and isn’t surprising at the same time. It was surprising because he was faced up to six months in prison for falsely claiming the ownership of a photograph from a particular Associated Press. I did not know you could go to prison for copyright infringement. However, it wasn’t surprising because infringing copyrighted content is a big deal, especially in the United States. He probably would have gotten a less severe sentence if he just admitted it at the beginning instead of trying to cover it up until the end. Like the article mentioned, hopefully, everyone who read Mr. Fairey’s case would be reminded how important it is to produce original content.

The ethical guidelines provided by AIGA should be followed by anyone involving in creative designs. As someone who works with designs all the time, I understand brainstorming original designs can be a long and difficult process. Therefore, I think referencing other designers’ work to find inspiration is acceptable and common, but directly stealing one’s work without leaving any credit to the original designer is shameful.

I am prouder when I can come up with beautiful original designs without referencing any outside sources. My company is similar in this aspect. The company promotes making original designs and wants to keep using third-party assets to the minimum. We understand the seriousness of infringing other peoples’ work. Therefore, even if we are using third-party assets, we will have to make sure that these assets are loyal free, and okay to use.

On the other hand, I did not sign a confidentiality or nondisclosure agreement because I am not involved in in-depth or confidential information. However, I understand how important it is to keep this information private. I have discussed with my supervisor and gained permission to share what I have been contributing to the company to this class.

My internship is in the form of remote, and the rest of the team is also working online. Since our company has just started and the scale of employees is not large, there are no interactive activities or events in our company. During the work process, we will discuss the work content in the chat group or arrange a video meeting when necessary. We can learn about the company’s project development or other new NFT activities through Twitter, the official website, and Discourse.

Blog#6_ Self-Evaluate

From the first day of my internship until now, I’ve rated myself as average, somewhere around 60-70. From the beginning of the internship, the task assigned to me by the person in charge was to build 3D models, so my task has not changed. The reason for giving myself a score of 60-70 is that in the process of work, I may be unskilled in technology and not good at communication at the beginning. There are also some small flaws in my time management, but for now, I am working on improving these problems, and I hope I can achieve the standard I have in mind.

In this internship, the project I participated in was a little ghost game. My job is to build the basic 3D small skeleton model. These little skeletons are limited-edition pets in our little ghost game. Therefore, there are about 2,500 models of small skeletons, but fortunately, the accessories of some small skeletons are repeated, which reduces the workload of building 3D models. In our team, we have a full-time artist available for me to ask any questions related to design or technical questions. Usually, I complete the modeling process independently according to the design drawing. I talk to them when I have technical questions and doubts. My working hours are all at my disposal, but I try to match my colleagues’ time for work discussions. The process of discussing together is an effective way to conclude. Of course, occasionally we have disagreements, and the result after the discussion is the combination of everyone’s ideas and the embodiment of everyone’s ideas.

Blog#4_ Process

The tasks I have been working on for my internship were making 3D models of game characters based on completed 2D pixel art. During the internship process, not only did I gain more knowledge of my professional skills, but I have also improved my personal development skills such as communication and time management.

When I first started the internship, I was nervous and wasn’t confident in my skills. My tasks are straightforward, but I had trouble envisioning/designing these models because there are a lot more details involved in 3D models than 2D pixel pictures. I am glad that my supervisor came to check on me often because I did not dare to ask for help. My supervisor told me it is normal to encounter problems in the workspace. Asking questions and communicating effectively with others can help you learn faster and improve productivity. I kept that in mind, and it works quite well. My colleagues are very friendly and were able to answer all my questions.

Time management is another area that I improved on. I consider myself to be a procrastinator, but I had to organize my time well for this semester because I am a lot of time-consuming classes as well as an internship. Therefore. To make sure I have enough time to excel in my classes and work, I made a schedule with daily tasks that I must accomplish. It was difficult to follow through with all the tasks that I assigned to myself every day in the beginning, but as time goes on, I find it quite satisfying when I can complete all the tasks. And it surely helped me stay on track with all the homework and work assignments.

Blog#3_ Work Mode

My internship is not working in person but can be done anywhere remotely. I like this working mode very much because I can arrange my work time as long as I can finish the work on time. This way of working adds flexibility to my schedule, so I have no restrictions on what to wear and when I eat. Since I currently have a lot of courses, I need to balance homework and work project time. Normally, I work for my internship on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in a row, and the other days for my course project. We usually report on the progress of our work on Friday and go through an online meeting. Colleagues are also wearing their comfortable attire at home. I think this way of working remotely may be something some people like.
