Book Cover

I forgot to post this, so here it is now:

In hindsight, the “puddle”, could’ve just been a shadow and the thermos could’ve used the detail of the neck those frozen burns that pressurized cylinders have when a lot of gas is let out at once.(I’m bad at trying to find an example so you have to take my word on it, or look for it yourself)

That’s in the past though, Cat’s Cradle is written with one thing that the reader is constantly reminded of: Ice-9. The idea of the cover is to also do this job, the theming being Mutually Assured Destruction(M.A.D.) and the wish to grow humanity without thinking of the negative consequences/ the military turning anything into a weapon of war. So, I hope to have made that point clear with this PNG your looking at.

Fun with Photoshop

I got a hold of Photoshop and came up with a few ideas(which of course came from a few themes)

Size Difference

That’s right, Lego spaceman was always part of the Beatles! What, who are you talking about? Never heard of him! Honestly though, it was hard to find the right settings to make it look seamless(and it still does), maybe I’ll learn with time.

Time Difference

Be honest, how fast did you see Gandalf? maybe it’s just because I made the image. I learned from this image that the Highest quality photo, isn’t always necessary previous attempts looked too good in fact, making the illusion too obvious. Also the staff was semi-out of frame, so I took it out. Just consider it a weapon of war he’s only allowed to have in the frontlines.

Something Else…

Sometimes your best work comes from the bizarre, and an eel-shark will probably be mine. I’ve said it many times but it can always look better.

Making Silhouettes

Look at this cool dude:

I messed around with sliders and didn’t know when to stop. the lines on the background are supposed to be those lines that some snowboards have(if it was too hard to see, there you go). Also, if the arms look weird, blame the jacket, because they do that.

Calling card

For practice, I’ve recreated this gator from a business card I got at a convention.

Look at him(I’m not changing the text)

This was found for merchandise of an artist selling pins of these reptilian beasts. With this practice I decided to try something like it, but obviously different.

Which came out to this:

I haven’t started a business yet(Or profile)

The composition is much simpler than the practiced one, but I hope to still give it character. I thought of so many things, like having the Point of View be in a restaurant booth with the ghost on the other end excited. I also thought of it being in the soup before that as well, and a few others. But for the first time, I think being simple will help me complete it.

Logos

The Gelatin has gone cold and the soup has solidified into a little ghost.

This is my attempt at making a unique looking logo. I’ve seen goop monsters, and characters surrounded by soup, but not turned into one thing! The hat is a bowl that failed to spit out its contents and the spoon on the left helps to make out my initials(JQ).

A few extras:

These are the logos I came up with. A little simple in concept, but my pride tells me that it can be better. This might be something I revisit in the future when I have the confidence. But not right now
