Welcome

W

My name is Jonas Reitz, and I am a Professor in the Mathematics Department at City Tech.

My research interests are in mathematical logic, especially set theory. I enjoy pondering questions like “do sets really exist?” and “what does it mean to be a real number?” and “if sets do exist, is there a universe of sets?” I have an unhealthy fascination with the method of universe-construction developed by Paul Cohen known as forcing.

I teach many different courses, although in recent years I’ve focused on three: MAT 2680 Differential Equations, MAT 2571 Introduction to Proofs (formerly 2071), and MEDU 3000 Mathematics of the Secondary School Curriculum.

Over the past decade-plus, much of my institutional work at City Tech has revolved around the OpenLab, City Tech’s platform for open education, collaboration, and community (and my favorite online space).  You are looking at the OpenLab right now – if you want to see more of it, check out the OpenLab home page. I have served as PI on two major Title V grant projects involving the OpenLab in various ways, the Living Lab and Opening Gateways, and I am currently one of the Co-Directors of the OpenLab.

Welcome, and feel free to poke around!
