Students in our department typically have little experience of thinking and designing at the scale of a neighborhood. I worked with Prof. Michael Duddy to develop the assignments below to specifically help the students shift their thinking from buildings as objects on a site to buildings as ensembles that make up blocks, streets, neighborhoods.
Block Typology Template and Mockup:
This assignment is complex, so the boards below serve as a guide for the students’ investigation of a block in their neighborhood. I also made available the Adobe Illustrator file so the students could use these boards as a template in a plug and play approach, helping them focus on content rather than formatting work.
