The Search For an Internship: WK 2

Nazrin Babashova

Landing an internship has always been a priority for me. It’s one of the best ways to network and gain experience before graduation. But finding the right opportunity wasn’t easy. It was frustrating, and at times, I started doubting myself. Later in life, I made the decision to return to school and finish my degree after being away for so long. It wasn’t an easy choice, but I knew it was the right one.

One day, I was talking to a friend about my struggles, and they mentioned an opening at Meatpacking Boutique. They encouraged me to apply, and with their support, I reached out to the team and landed the internship. The interview process was in-person and conducted with one of the boutique’s managers. It felt more like a conversation than a formal interview, which helped ease my nerves. I was asked about my background in design, my interest in the brand, and how I would balance the internship with my other responsibilities. A few days later, I received the offer.

My role started with supporting the sales team on the boutique floor, but I quickly transitioned into the marketing and events side. I now assist with social media management, community outreach, and boutique event coordination. I also create digital content to help promote new timepiece collections and ensure the visuals remain on-brand. My supervisor is the Boutique Manager, and working under them has helped me understand how design, luxury branding, and client experience all intersect in a high-end retail environment.

This internship has been a rewarding experience and a reminder that it’s never too late to chase your goals. I’m grateful for the journey and for the people who believed in me along the way
