Hello! Welcome to my E-Portfolio! My name is Jiaming Lu!
I was born and raised in Guangzhou, China, a city known for its amazing food.
I majored in Chinese education and received my bachelor’s degree in 2017. I worked as a Chinese teacher for a short period of time before deciding to become a dental hygienist. But I later realized that teaching was not a career for me, and in the meantime, I was given the opportunity to immigrate to the United States with my family.
My first job in New York was as a dental assistant. I was fortunate to work with different doctors who were warm and patient with me and taught me everything I didn’t know about dentistry. The first office where I worked had both general dentists and periodontists. And I am currently working with a periodontist. For over 5 years, I have been exposed to the dental environment by assisting in various dental procedures such as restorations, RCT, post and crown, veneer, dentures, orthodontic treatment, implant surgery, osseous surgery, tissue graft, and so on. I also learned how to take digital images, take impressions, and pour models, among other things.
I’m very interested in dentistry and have finally decided to look into a career in it. My employers also gave me advice and continued to encourage me to pursue higher education, which is why I chose to be a dental hygienist.
Working in a dental office not only provided me with dental knowledge but also taught me how to communicate with patients in order to provide better care. My work experience proved greatly beneficial to me during these two years in the program. It enabled me to better understand the materials and apply them to my patients in a proper manner during daily clinical sessions.
I am relieved to have overcome all the challenges and grateful for what I have accomplished in the program. I hope that in my future dental hygiene career, I will be able to continue studying and provide better care to my patients.
