WEEK 1 – Jan 9 – 13 (42.5 hours)
In the first week of my internship at Worldstage located in Secaucus New Jersey, I worked at the cable, audio, and video departments. I was introduced to their G2 inventory software that keeps all the equipment in a database. In the cable section, I helped in process and ship out audio, video, Ethernet, and power cables. I had to re-solder some XLR cables that weren’t working and then test them with a multi-meter. In the audio department, I got a tour of where all the audio equipment is. Then they taught me how to hook up the Yamaha, QL1, QL5, and CL1 consoles. After that came the video department, where they test TV monitors, image scalers, transmitters, and receivers before they ship them out and when they return. Also, the company had a group meeting where I participated in helping them build up a demo stage.
WEEK 2 – Jan 16 – 20, 2017 (42.5 hours)
In the second week, I worked in the engineering, projection, and LED shop departments. I was introduced to my engineering supervisor and he had me work with previous NYCCT members that are now hired fulltime. The first one was Sandy Thevenin. She taught and showed me how to understand the company’s Vectorworks draft plans that describes how to build Computer Networking Equipment Racks. She was building a rack for an order from scratch and showed me the signal flow. I worked with Farisa Ahmed and Joseph Montimarie with packaging items and scanning them. Also, I learned how to build BNC cables.
In the projection department, they only had projectors from two companies that are from Panasonic and Christie. With some of those projectors, I was taught how to do maintenance, lumen checks, RGB color checks, lens focusing, lamp replacement, and IP addressing. The Christie Boxer 4k30 is the biggest and most expensive projector they have and Madison Square Garden has 16 of them.
WEEK 3 – Jan 23 – 27, 2017 42.5 hours)
In the third week, I got to go through the LED and drafting departments. I helped build and setup the LED U39, U3, and U6 V1 Tile video panels ranging from 4×3, 6×4, and 7×5 wide and high. I also got the chance to help build a rack that controls the LED panels with image pro’s and windows software.
The drafting department showed me drafting sheets and layouts on how to build networking racks that control and help communicate video and audio systems. I got more training in Vectorworks to design concert stages full with projector screens, light, audio systems, and trusses.
WEEK 4 – Jan 30 – Feb 01, 2017 (9 hours)
My last week at Worldstage was the student choice and I chose to work in the LED department. It was new to me and involved a balance of rack building and physical LED tile construction. I learned how to setup their equipment and got more training on their ROE Hybrid 18 creative software to control their LED panels.
