ENG 1101 (C379/D379)

The purpose of writing this topic was important to me because I want to show the negative side effects of video gaming.  This information can help somebody to change their mind and limit the time that they spend on playing video games. This is one of the bad habits which is common in now a days. I chose two audiences in the gamers community and their families. The message to gamers is to limit their gaming hours. The message to their parents to see how much time they are  spending playing video games. This speech will be given to high school kids on parent teacher conference.

Dear video games players,

When you spend too much time on playing video games it has a negative effect on your mind. People who have played action video games that involve first-person shooters, such as Call of Duty and Medal of Honor, experienced shrinkage in a brain region called the hippocampus. That part of the brain is associated with spatial navigation, stress regulation, and memory. If you play action video games that affect your brain oppositely and cause growth in it. My point is not to cut off your video games from your daily activities but limit your gaming hours. I believe that you can play video games after you are done with your work, but not in the middle of your homework or when a friend asks you to play it.

There  is a report from India that appers earlier this month, about an 18-year-old boy  from Mumbai who allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself after he had an argument with his family members over buying a new mobile phone for playing a video game called  PUBG Mobile. This case and others of its kind led to calls from certain quarters, asking authorities to step in and put a ban on PUBG and other such games. The PUBG game was banned in India for some time limit but now the ban is removed . These kinds of actions show that kids are getting addicted to video games and they may do anything to play games and they could harm someone. PUBG addictions and other games can cause serious mental harm to impressionable teenagers and children. Video games like PUBG, Fortnite, Grand Theft Auto, God of War, Hitman, and Pokemon can be  harmful, and have an adverse impact on the brain’s of children.  Video games can even kill brain cells and interrupt a persons’s sleep.  Some time what happens is that you have 2 kids in the house and they have argue on who gets to play first its example that shows how it affects social relationships.

     Dear parents,

I want you to be aware of your kids daily video game activities because they can have  a negative influence on your kids. Playing video games on a daily basis can potentially impact your kids  attitudes and behaviors. Video games can affect your kids in many ways. Video games are targeting young people, especially high school and college youth. They affect their sleep patterns, when they stay up late at night with friends and playing online video games. Staying up late makes them lazy and they can not get enough sleep and  can’t focus on studying. Video games can also make people more violent according to “Manuela Ferrari”(source 3). Playing video games can affect your social relations.

Playing video games too much might lead to another serious problem. A health organization says Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, and Fortnite are just some of the super-popular video games that have captured the imaginations of gamers around the world. But health officials have become increasingly concerned that’s all those hours spent in video gaming worlds might actually be doing damage to mental health. Sometimes I couldn’t stop  myself from playing video games, and my addiction would force me to play for more time. Playing more is actually becoming an addiction for many kids and students. This means that increasing priority should not be given to gaming people,to make use of that time and spends on studying. Over time, gaming can take priority over other interests and make you lazy and stop them from doing daily activities and exercising. More than 150 million Americans are playing video games and 64 percent of American households are home to at least one person who plays video games regularly or at least three hours per day. According to  health care professionals “Dr KRINE TAWAGI”he believe that depression or anxiety is linked to video game addiction.

Video gaming is clearly a popular form of entertainment, with video gamers collectively spending 26 hours per week in front of their screens. Scientists have researched how video games affect the brain and behavior. Are you aware that these effects are negative to your brain?  There is increasing research focused on the impact of video gaming on the brain.

The average American gamer is a 35-year-old adult, with 72 percent of gamers aged 18 or older. For video games used by children, most parents (71 percent) of indicate that video games have a negative  influence on their child’s life. Video game sales continue to increase year by year. In 2016, the video game industry sold more than 24.5 billion games which is up from 23.2 billion in 2015, and 21.4 billion in 2014. The top four selling video games of 2016 are Call of Duty, Infinite Warfare, Battlefield 1, and Grand Theft Auto V. First person shooter and action genres often stand accused of stirring aggression and causing violence and addiction. Many parents are very curious about these actions.  Parents are feeling that they are losing touch with their kids. Video games can effects your kids eye sight due to the devices that they use to play video games, for example using cell phone paying close attention.

When I started  writing my assignment on Annotated biography,I  need to find a topic and it took too long to choose a topic  .When I choose my topic I needed to make a strong claim and argue about my  topic with evidence. I found some arguments for my topics by (new papers ,books, speeches, youtube etc). When I wrote my genre,I make sure that my claim is clear to understand ,argument to audiences . My  tone was emotionally, and harsh to persuade my audience.I had to be clear who is my audience. In this case my audience was the people or college students who are like me getting distracted or spend most of their time on Social Media. My genre sheres four things in common(Tone,Audiences,Arguments,Claim). What I have learned about my topic is that “Social Media”is a problem for some people in some ways. It can cause problems in your healthy life and relationships. Social Media is making kids getting far from their families. I want to know that social media causes distraction for me when I’m studying and does it happens to other people like me?What were some problems (challenges)that other people faced when they were doing their project. What ways and sources that helped you to find evidence.

When strength is that I don’t give up without fighting back and this thing make and motivated me to finish my assignment. Through this assignment I kind of mirror myself and saw myself in this project. When I start doing this assignment  first I gave up then I sater looking up for my evidence when I found my two evidence it looked kind of easy. The evidence that I used, it kind of shows that there are many people in the world who are tired of social media . My strength as a writer is that I always like to learn more and do some research before I start my assignment. I’m good at planning things and remembering for example when I chose my genre and selected  and negative effects of “Social Media” and I made plans where to look and what sources I need to choose in order to write a good annotated biography. I used newspaper articles and Youtube videos to back up my arguments with evidence. I would like to continue my by writing a personal diary so it would keep me writing something everyday. Also I like to write short stories . If I do so I would need to write down everything that I do everyday.

The author tells us about the use of social media and how it’s growing faster. New generation people use social media as a source of entertainment.Sometime it comes in the way of your education . Social media is the biggest distraction in our study for example you are studying and your friend texts you and you start talking to them. When you try to study it makes you to think about videos and posts that you missed. We always check our phones  before sleep to just do is quick check if somebody texted. We spend a lot of time on social media even up late at night and feel sleepy in class so this why you get sleep disorder. Before using social media you never think that its harmful for you. Without social media it could be hard for two weeks like you are missing something in your life but it could be very productive.

The author apprise that social media linked to rise in mental health disorders in teens. In addition, people suffering with mental issues like Anxiety, Depression and other mental disorders which gets complicated in today’s world. According to the text, “Young adults born after 1995 are experiencing more mental health issues. Researchers point to lack of sleep and the rise of social media”. This Quote illustrates that young adults who were born after 1995, suffering from mental issues because social media takes place and how people get addicted to it. Aslo, it become need for them. Moreover, “We found a substantial increase in major depression or suicidal thoughts, psychological distress, and more attempted suicides after 2010, versus the mid-2000s, and that increase was by far the largest in adolescents and young adults,” said lead author Jean Twenge, author of the book “iGen” and professor of psychology at San Diego State University”. This quotes shows that increase in usage of social media lead to harmful psychological health issues, and more suicides happen in 2010. Therfore, how digital communication versus face-to-face social interaction influences mood disorders and suicide-related outcomesmore social media use is associated with increased reported symptoms of social anxiety, social isolation, and feelings of loneliness. As a result, Social media is harmful for all ages because it’s addictive which destroys life, time, and maintenance of health. Make imbalances in your life.

Global FocusNorth America. `.Jonah Berger “”The Impact of Social Media: Is It Irreplaceable?”Knowledge@Wharton,https://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article/impact-of-social-media/.

The author demonstrates that  “Social media has plenty of detractors, but by and large, do Americans agree with Brown’s sentiment? In 2018, 42% of those surveyed in a Pew Research Center survey said they had taken a break from checking the platform for a period of several weeks or more, while 26% said they had deleted the Facebook app from their cell phone”. The author says people deleted facebook app because it’s very addictive and a waste of time.  Social media is a big problem for nowadays generation for example it creates problems in your social relationship. In addition, teens do self esteem about themselves because when people start valuing themselves on number of followers or likes, it creates a situation that requires more and more likes or followers in order to achieve the same feeling, and it’s not healthy or sustainable. As a result, I can say for myself that Social Media and Instagram in particular have sometimes been damaging to my mental health, and as a result of that I’ve had to take time off from the app to get back into my own life and away from watching others.

I don’t know what hurts me more than the fact that I moved to America and being unable to speak English. After I came to this country, unfortunately, I faced many problems. The problem was that my family’s financial problems not having job. One of the biggest problems was that not knowing the language. It was hard to find a job and I felt like flair  because i had a struggle to communicate with others. My only fear was that success would be hard to achieve however, deep down I know one of my strongest qualities l is that I always seek success and never quit. Then My experience with English wasn’t too bad. When I recently came into United States i felt like I will never fit into this environment because English is my second language. The first day in my computer class my teacher gave a dictionary so whenever I have problems with English I look words meaning first in my language so I can remember that word. Dictionary was my first thing to start knowing English then I started watching movies to speak with accents. First semester even my English teacher told me that you should take PM classes ecause I wasn’t passing that class . Then I took evening classes to improve my English. First semester I got failing grades then I start with a new beginning and improved my grades up to 85 %,95%. Then English was my favorite subject which I never ever failed. I read my first book called “A Child Called It”and my experience was great with reading books. Every day I come to my school I learned a new thing a new vocabulary word I take notes and look for meanings . Then I joined volleyball in my school so I can interact with more people. I spoke my broken English in class and whoever I talked too never feel ashamed because I was there to learn something if i’m wrong teachers will correct me. I knew who ever is in this roon with me nobody is perfect in English they are here to learn too. I loved working in groups so I can learn how each person has a different idea than me. I’m good at learning is when I watch videos so it creates an image in my mind so I never forget. I started working at a pharmacy and I wasn’t good at communicating with customers at that time but now i’m very happy to go to work and meet with different people and also help people who don’t speak English because im Trilingual. My experiences with English was good because I wanted to learn English and  anyone can learn English if you are willing to do so . I think that Malcolm X, story is similar to mine because we had to learn something new which we never did before. But everyday when I get to learn something I remember it. This struggle has shaped me to face any problems that I have. This struggle with language as ESL student shaped to me a successful high school student. The struggle with English make me stronger so I can communicate with people with confidence and show who I am and where I have came from. Today I have a good job and learned that there is a good time after a hard time. It is easy to be successful in any part of the world if you know (learn) the language of the country that most people speak. When I see different students from different cultures I feel more motivated and positive. In the beginning I felt like I won’t be able to achieve higher education however now I realize that im capable of higher education and that will give me more opportunities to improve myself. I’m first in my family who is in college and I will make my family proud and be an example to others in my community. And I know there is only one way higher education which will help me to obtain my career opportunities and my dream job. I have full confidence that I will keep working hard in college and turn into my success. English was important to me because it gave me the power to speak for myself. Learning English marked my relationship to reading books and novels. English is a language that always give you something new to learn a new vocabulary that you learn in your life by a lesson that makes you remember words for forever. I would say English is not just a language, it means to explore.

Malcoln X, the story is very inspiring because he made himself able to society by the help of books. I liked the story most because his story is and mine are common. The most things I liked is that he didn’t give up on his limited knowledge. He used a dictionary to get information and increase his knowledge. Also I liked his saying on page 265 that being in prison changed his life now he can see himself knowledgeable person and able to read things.
