My name is Jessica Caliendo, born and raised in New York. Since I could remember I wanted a career that involved helping others. As an aspiring dental hygienist, I was fortunate enough to be exposed to dentistry as a young adult. In high school I enrolled in a dental assisting and restorative dentistry elective class. After being recommended to by my high school dental teacher I was offered a job as a dental assistant. From that point in my life I knew I wanted to continue a dental career in my future.

I entered New York City College of Technology in the fall of 2012, and in the fall of 2014 I was accepted into the Dental Hygiene program.

Everyday in this program has been a true learning experience for me. I learned so much from my professors, doctors, classmates and patients. It was eye opening being able to apply what I learned in lecture to my clinical hands-on practice. The clinical experience and seeing patients multiple times a week has allowed me to expand my knowledge and grow as an individual and skilled hygienist . I have learned the importance of prevention, patient education, and making a difference in peoples lives.

As I approach the end of my Dental Hygiene associates degree. I cant truly say this career was made for me. I look forward to appling my skills learned in school to my dental hygiene career and everyday life.
