FREE ARTS NYC is a charity that empowers undeserved youth through art and mentoring programs to develop their creativity, confidence, and skills to succeed. This charity is here to help children of all ages to help them meet new people and get to learn themselves better. I had a chance to get see the site of the charity and it’s very lively and full of kids and adults who have great relationships with each other. The adults help the kids with their art projects and supervise them in anything they do. The site of the charity has the art the children make all over and even in the class rooms too.
The founder and director of the program is Liz Hopfan. She was not there when I went but it’s said that she mad this charity because she was a teacher and she realized that art was drying up. A quote from Liz Hopfan is “I first came to understand the crucial intersection of art-making and mentoring as a volunteer with Free Arts for Abused Children in LA. As an elementary school teacher in the late 90s, I saw opportunities for art education drying up. When I started volunteering at a residential care facility for boys, I was moved by how the children opened up while engaging with the arts and the volunteer mentors. These experiences inspired me to head back east and found Free Arts NYC.” She basically just wanted to help restore art culture. Kids now don’t really do art in their time off its either they are playing video games, and watching TV.
The impact FREE ARTS NYC had the community is 100% of teen portfolio mentees are accepted to a high school of their choice, and Served 32,000 children and families and engaged 18,000 volunteers. They help out so many teens and kids to keep them on the right path to make sure they keep chasing their goals. A quote from FREE ARTS NYC is “We strive to provide the highest quality programming, and measure our effectiveness with two evaluation systems all of which are proven to contribute to long-term gains such as thriving, decreased risk-taking behaviors, and increased academics.” Overall this program was very well put together and really helps people of all ages even if it’s keeping kids off the streets or helping young adults get a job for themselves.

The “Advancing Human Rights” organization helps those who don’t have a voice but they make they are still being heard. They aren’t that big of an organization but they do try to help those who struggle with any type of freedom of rights. The way this organization can create more of an impact is trying to confront that government more to expand on those who are looking for their rights. I feel they should also try interviewing more people so they can speak on what rights they are looking for so the organization help find a better solution or even be the voice they need so that they can obtain those rights. Another way they can see what people are fighting for is to try to send out surveys so for those who do answer they can speak on what freedom they feel like they aren’t getting and act on finding a way to be able to grant those rights or freedom to the people of their city. they are organization that wants those who are struggling to be free to be heard. They don’t shame anyone upon their belief ’s , skin color or religion they are looking to help anyone that they could. I feel like they should go to many different communities to hear out many other people voices so that they can improve on better helping those around them. Granted they are a small organization but if they branch out they can be a larger organization which can help out a lot more people all over. They should learn different approaches towards talking to the government about certain changes that they can make so that the community is fair for all. They could also separate certain groups to focus on different problems as a whole so that they can be more organize with what and who they are fighting for. So overall they are a organization that is looking for a difference in the world so no one has to be treated unfairly or pushed to the side because they aren’t brave enough to speak among the problems going on. They are here for people to try to make it a better place for the next generation to come so they can have it just a bit easier than those before them. Advancing Human Rights are a place to look into if you want something done.
