Good example of the Rule of Thirds. This picture is broken up into 3 parts horizontally and diagonally, bringing a lot of emphasis on the animal and the background.

Good example of Von Restorff effect. Out of the bunch of green apples, we obviously notice the emphasis on the red apple as well.

    Rule of Thirds/Golden Ratio:

    This photograph follows both rules.

You think of the shark as the main carnivore, but not in this poster.

Endangered fish might get more attention if they were different animals.

Great examples of photographs overlayed with an animated grid to demonstrate the rule of thirds:

Example of using color sparingly to achieve an isolation effect in architecture, leading the eye towards the main entrance of the building:

    1. Rule of thirds: When a grid is laid out creating three vertical and three horizontal areas. Images are generally found to be more interesting if elements in the photo interact with the grid is one way or another. This popular photo was analyzed against the golden ratio.

    2. Isolation effect: Only one car in the photo is non-neutral color.
