We were able to chose a artist who inspires us to do what we want to do when we get older. This really made me think about why I keep on in reaching my goal.

Bobby (Kim) Hundreds streetwear brand co-founder based out of Los Angeles, CA is the artist that I chose. I picked him because after watching a short documentary on how he rose the ranks in the streetwear industry, he shows that anyone can do it as long as you have the right mindset and stick to your plan anything can happen. It gives hope to the people that want to build something from nothing. For the past year or so I have been researching on how to make a business, and it always goes back to one thing and that is patience. When looking up Bobby he had his patience and when he saw the opportunity he took it. He had a realization after talking to his mentor and I feel like going over things with people who know you better than you know you can lead to a big impact in what you do.

Bobby Hundreds has made his sketches into designs on shirts, hoodies, skateboards, and more. Recently his company has expanded into a print magazine, they have been growing since the day it started in 2003. He is a veteran in the streetwear industry and he grew without the greatest resource which is social media. What it took was going into these stores in person with samples and trying to get the stores to buy a supply of them. They had to fake it, till they made it, they did this by lying to the stores about who they were and had people buy the clothes once they were put on the shelves. Once one store would sell out they would go to another and talk about their success that they just had. The way that they had grown their brand and company intrigued my interest because if they were able to grow with no social media and knowing how to be able to grow this company into something bigger than they thought that they would be I feel like anyone nowadays can make what they want and put it out there to grow.

He has grown a net worth of up to $6 million, has written a book called this is not a t-shirt about the highs and lows of running a streetwear company for going on 16 years. If I say so myself I would call that success. It also talks about how the subculture went from underground into the mainstream view. This can be said of multiple other brands such as Supreme and Bape which were both started in the 90’s that have arisen as the giants of the streetwear industry. The company also has many collaborations with other companies and artists, on the site right now the collaborations are currently with world known brand Puma. Others include Secret Heart, Kenny Scharf, and Mark Riddick. The documentary that I keep looking back at is called How Bobby Hundreds Tuned A T-Shirts Into A Streetwear Empire by Complex. The one thing that keeps getting me to watch it over and over again is the part where he is talking to his mentor when he was an intern at a Law firm. His mentor made him who he is and made him happy because if it wasn’t for him then he would have been stuck working in something he didn’t love to do. His mentor told him that he was gonna be great one day, but this isn’t what he was going to be great at. The one thing that kept popping up and that he was showing his mentor was the sketches that he made and he finally realized he needed to put his work out there.

I want to one day work with people like him or be under people that are like him because they show resilience, and are good people to learn from. They started off like the rest of us lost and not knowing what to do, or doing what other people want us to do and then finally realizing what makes them happy and going out and doing that thing. For me right now this is the path I want to go down because it makes me happy being able to put my work out there and maybe one day to grow as much as he did, but that isn’t the point of doing it, the point of doing it is to make myself happy and to be proud of what I made and what I built. Being able to show others the mindset that I have and to show that others can do the same thing. He also shows that you should take some risks in life because if he never took that risk of lying in the store just to get his product across then he might have never been where he is today. I want to one day build something up like he did from nothing.
