Kevin Zambrano: Shawn Summary

Wallace Shawn is the publisher of a magazine titled “Final Edition” that only had one issue. In this magazine issue Shawn describes the reaction of the American public when shown photographs of American soldiers tormenting people. He notes the reaction of the general public as becoming desensitized to the photographs and instead found it to be something normal. Shawn writes “the problem is that [men in Washington] would say that all of the marching and trampling they’re doing is actually for the benefit of me and everyone I know,” (50) and challenges the notion by writing about how the benefit should be for “our very beautiful planet as a whole” (51). Shawn concludes byĀ lamenting the immigration policies of his country and those of other countries.

Summary of Shawn Wallace

In the article: An “American” Publishes A Magazine By Shawn Wallace makes many references about America as a whole the small acts of assimilation he noted and how he as an American Citizen is livingĀ in AmericaĀ unlike others who might value America more then he does.Ā  The author makes it very clear that this is the case as he mentions that he doesn’t feel the loyalty most people or citizen’sĀ would have for their country in most cases. But although he does not feel loyalty towards America he does not put it below another country and vice versa. The author considers all of them equal as seen on page 51 of the article Wallace stated: “I don’t value an American life more then I value a Nigerian life.” The article made it very clear how the author although he lives in America as a citizen he sees it as he would see any other place he would live in.

Victoria VanName: Shawn Summary

“An “American” Publishes A Magazine” is from a magazine called “Final Edition”. It talks about how the American public were shown several pictures that showed American soldiers torturing, degrading and mocking very thin people in chains and how most people didn’t even react to them. The author says that heĀ would rather think and talk about something else instead of the words “the United States” because he would rather fill his brain with nicer thoughts than ones of the men in Washington DC even though the author admits that “all of the marching and trampling they’re doing” benefits most Americans, including himself. The author gives many examples about how the United States is not the most important country and how he personally views everyone as equal. The magazine only had one edition because the author wanted people to read it and try to figure things out with friends and people they trust.

What does it mean to be an “American”

What does it really mean to be an American? This is a question that every american must ask themselves. For me it simply means sharing the pride for our wonderful characteristics, our ethical and moral values that represent us around the world. ThereĀ is one more thing that comes as a carriage with all the wonderful things that is the burden of the wrongs that most Americans donā€™t realize is being done. As a nation we believe in American exceptionalism, we think we are different and exempted from any kind of accountability. The truth is just a fact that we just happened to be born here that doesnā€™t make us any superior from anyone else around the world. We hold the same human rights as others, the people around the world are not any less human. We are all born with the dignity and we deserve the same. The creation of our nation was the result of a heinous crime that we should not be proud of and we should all be ready to share the burden of the wrong we commit as a nation.

“Wallace Shawn” summery

In the article “AN “AMERICAN” PUBLISHED A MAGAZINE”, Wallace Shawn, the author is reflecting his thoughts about the existence of the discrete nations. He begins with depicting the depth of abuse Americans were willing to perceive as normal when given by them to somebody else. Shawn proceeds with his views on being an American and the whole idea of the “United States” referring to it as a waste. He talks about the government officials and him being completely uninterested in them. “men in Washington D.C., who have a sick to set fire to cities, wear enormous crowns, and march across crowds of prostrate people”. This statement reveals that he thinks that men in authority are a bunch of phonies and that he does not believe in them being authentic. Later he also gives a counter argument stating that he acknowledges that it is because of these unpleasant men the oil and the other supplies are being delivered to him and making his life easy. Shawn does not feel loyal to his or any other nation rather he only believes in the planet earth as a whole with no boundaries and restricted area that he need a permit to travel to. He views every person as equal regardless his/ her nationality. He has strong beliefs in his thoughts but is bound by the conceptions of the majority.
