Group Guide for Hot Topic Presentations:

  1. Include as much detail as possible, so that you are able to explain the work properly, and the person watching the presentation can comprehend the concept easier.
  2. Time management is important because you are timed, so you need to practice your presentation before giving it that way you don’t spend too much time explaining a concept.
  3. Being able to fully understand a concept before you actually give a presentation on it is important because you are able to fully explain your reasoning for each step of the problem.

Zenab’s Hot Topic 1 Standard: Evaluate definite and indefinite integrals by substitution.

The group commented that Zenab clearly identified which rules she was following which makes it easier for the listener to learn about the rules of integration behind the steps. She was clear in her presentation and  knew how to answer the questions we as a group asked.

Brygetee’s Hot Topic 1 Standard: Evaluate definite and indefinite integrals by substitution.

The group commented that it was very straightforward and organized.

Using different colors helps a person who is looking at the presentation understand why certain concepts are more important. Having a step by step explanation for each step guarantees that you won’t be confused when asked why you did a certain step.

Aleem’s Hot Topic 2 Standard: Evaluate definite and indefinite integrals by parts.

The group commented that the presentation was organized and the fact that everything is broken down step by step makes things easy to understand. Showing where he canceled things out makes it clearer for the person watching the presentation because he didn’t skip steps.

Eduardo’s HOT Topic 10 Standard: Find The Area of a Region in the Plane w/ Specified Boundaries

The group commented that the presentation was underprepared and the procedures weren’t fully written, considering he [Eduardo] went about 5 standards ahead on his [my] own despite how neatly written and organized the steps were. When presenting the problem all steps were organized on the paper; however, the group didn’t understand the following steps and were not able to grasp how it was explained because the group has not yet reached HOT Topic standard 10. The group added feedback for my [Eduardo’s] presentation criteria: write down the procedures in conjunction to the integration process.
