Savanna Acevedo

Hello everyone! My name is Savanna Acevedo. This is my second year, but first semester in the Hospitality Management department. My academic goals are to gain new knowledge on management and how restaurants run, along with the other aspects of Hospitality Management. I am looking forward to learning about the things that I have yet to discover in order to apply it to my future goals. I am currently still planning out my life and trying to gain experience on things I plan on doing in the future. For example, event planning. I am looking for volunteer work and applying for jobs in order to learn concepts, and get an idea of what I should be expecting. Once I have my mind set on something, there is no way I can avoid it therefore I must achieve it. I am very determined person when it comes to things I desire the most.

Karina’s eProfile

Hello

As you may recall, my name is Karina. This is my second year at City Tech although I have been to other colleges. I have been majoring in Psychology for about 4 years but my interest changed when I began to work in the restaurant industry. I am currently working at Dig Inn Seasonal Market located in Union Square. I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to learn what it is like to run and operate a business as well as the culinary aspect of the restaurant. I was also promoted to a manager but I have stepped down in order to be able to go to school and learn even more about the industry. I look forward to learning anything and everything in the hospitality management industry and explore my options as to what I want to do in the future.

Weronika Jurski

This is my 2nd year in City Tech, but my first semester in Hospitality management. Hospitality management has a lot to do with communicating with people all over the world as well as working with them, and I think thats a great fit for me. I aspire to excel in this field and become either a Hotel manager, or a Travel manager in the near future.

Nicolette Hardy

Hi Everyone , My name is Nicolette Hardy and this is currently my second year in City Tech. My major is liberal arts and I actually would be graduating from City Tech with my Associates Degree this semester. I decided to take liberal arts because I knew I would transfer over to Brooklyn College in the fall to fulfill the major of Early Childhood Education. I took this class because I have a strong feeling that I want to minor in hospitality management. This then brings me to my career experiences, I have worked at a community center for kids and also I’m currently working in a catering company and Sears. My dream since I was 11 years old was to become a teacher because there is nothing better than sharing some of the knowledge you have with others. Working at the catering company has showed me that it is a pleasure helping and servicing people even though sometime they are not the easiest to please. One of my personal strengths is my customer service. I deliver great customer service skills because I’ve worked with in that field for some years now and know how to handle certain situations. My personal interests is basically the work that I’m doing now which is catering the best service to clients and  also being a cashier , making sure customers have a great shopping experience. This all enhances becoming a teacher because kids are also people and they require a lot of patience and attention as I would give my clients and customers.

Kiara Landrau

Hello everyone as all might know my name is Kiara and I am really excited to finally be able to start the Hospitality program. With that getting to where I am at today has been a journey because academically I was not prepared for how different college is compared to high school and it felt like I was completely alone since I didn’t really have someone to be there and help me. I was stuck repeating remedial math to the point where I had to take a semester off and finish it in a different program. On top of that I was also having a difficult time balancing out two jobs. With all of these things going on for all at once put me in a place where I just wanted to give up on everything but at the same time I didn’t want to because I did want to be the fist person in my family to get a degree and make them proud, I want a career being in the food industry since I do love being in a kitchen setting. It was a matter of taking myself out of that negative head space and go for what I want because I know if I work for it I could get to the point where I will be able to have a business  of my own in the future.

Anani Santos

My experience academically is primarily musical theatre and performance based, with some marketing and advertisement experience as well. My main academic goal during the course of my four years here at Citytech is to expand my mind and learn as much as I can. Of course my primary focus will be Hospitality Management, but I won’t turn away any opportunities like clubs that will help me learn new things. My career experience is all retail which in a sense is Hospitality. I worked at Duane Reade for about a year, and got promoted to be a Beauty Consultant which was strictly about providing excellent customer service through cosmetics. My career goals are to try and be a successful performer but I have a strong passion for the culinary arts, which is why I chose this major. I hope to be able to pursue both passions of mine in the future. My personal strengths include my positive attitude and carefree spirit. You can’t be shy and be a theatre major, and if you are, you have to fake it! This attitude allows me to be fearless both in life and now in the classroom. I have no problems participating or presenting, I actually look forward to it which makes open classes like this fun and exciting for me. My positive attitude also allows me to leave drama at the door and focus on my work when the time comes. Whatever is going on in my life can not and will not interfere with my studies, simply because I’ve been trained to work long, tiring hours with 100% energy and effort and have to bring that every day regardless of what happens outside the performance area. These strengths go hand in hand with my interests because I only acquired these strengths through my interest in musical theatre and performance. The skills I learned on stage always find their way into my professional life, and have landed me every opportunity I’ve been forurnate enough to receive because they correlate so strongly with a demanding work setting. On top of the aforementioned skills, my teamwork and punctuality have also been upgraded through the power of performance.
