Industry Research Report : (Step One)

A sector of the hospitality industry I would like to build my career in is Lodging Operations.
Three trends in Lodging Operations are:
ļ¶ Third Party Booking Sites
ļ¶ Facial Recognition Check-In
ļ¶ Augmented Reality
Third Party Booking Sites:
A third party booking site offered deals to consumers by purchasing empty room in hotels. People looking for hotels to stay in consider using a third party booking site, because prices are cheaper versus booking straight from the hotels website. Third party booking sites make it easier for hotels to gain more customers. They also give an alternative to just looking on the hotel website, calling, or even walking in.

Facial Recognition Check-In:
Facial recognition check-in allows hotel guests to check-in by scanning their face and ID card at a kiosk. This trend only exists in China as of right now. It is supposed to speed up a long wait time for checking in. So, now you have an option of digitally checking in instead of waiting at the front desk for a long period of time.

Augmented Reality:
Augmented reality is a computer generated image of the real world. It is a special amenity to include in hotels, because not every hotel has it. Augmented reality can be useful for information you need or even to enhance the relaxation of your stay. You can pull up a map of your surrounding area for directions or put a waterfall around your room for tranquility. The possibilities are endless with this superb features in hotels.

I am an outgoing and understanding student with a passion to bake. I show no fear of the obstacles that block me from pursuing my dream.Ā  From working as a dishwasher in an Italian restaurant to a food preparer in Pret, it has been a long journey. These are steps I am willing to take to achieve my dream, even if they don’t relate to baking I am willing to do so if it means being in a kitchen. I want to go from baking desserts for a bake sale to selling my desserts to the people in New York.

Before starting my career as an MTA bus operator, I worked in the food and beverage industry. Throughout my young adult years, I served and bussed tables then eventually moving up to the position of a bartender. One of my favorite jobs was working for entertainment cruises. A three-hour cruise ship that circled the Hudson and east river viewing some of the cites of New York City. It provided you with a buffet-style dinner to go along with some refreshing cocktails. It was on that cruise ship where I discovered my interest in the food and beverage industry and brought back to college. I’m back in college studying hospitality management trying to obtain all the knowledge Ā I can in the hope of opening my establishment one day. I want to research various types of wines and cuisine so I can include them in my restaurants and bars. I also wish to acquire the proper management skill needed to operate a large successful business. I’m pretty much open-minded in receiving any information in the hospitality field whether In food and beverage or any other sections. My strength is patience and the willingness to go above and beyond to ensure someone else is satisfied. Two qualities that are perfect in wanting to start your own business.

I was introduced to hospitality and tourism at a young age, as my motherā€™s side of the family owns two hotels in a popular tourist destination in Upstate New York. From housekeeping, grounds and maintenance services, and cafĆ© operations, Iā€™ve experienced it, and learned about hospitality from a small, family run business. Aside from my small family operation, I have worked at a full service hotel as the Maitre D for three premier restaurants, supervising operations of dining reservations. This has given me quite a diverse background, and taught me how fun and exciting this industry can be. In the academic environment, I completed my high school requirements by my Junior Year which allowed me to get a head start on my college career at local community college. After graduation and completion of one year at the community college, I began Business school at the University of Vermont. Ā After a year at UVM, I decided that wasnā€™t the right fit, and have since transferred to City Tech, where I believe I will be successful. Personally, my strengths lie in communication and face-to-face guest services, which will help me flourish as a hotelier. As far as my career expectations go, my goal is to work in consulting, business development, and operations management, on a somewhat large scale.

My academic experience has had many ups and downs. My strong suits are english and history. Iā€™ve never been much of a math person, I know that I need math to succeed in this field of work. I am willing to push myself to retain as much information as I can during this semester and I will do great in anything that has to do with math. I have career experience in working a lot with people mainly kids though. Iā€™ve been a cashier at Keyfood, a camp counselor, and a dance teacher. My career goals are to become a hotelier in the future. Iā€™ve always loved to stay in various hotels and thereā€™s just a lively and comforting aura that Iā€™ve always admired about them. I love to meet new people and make them feel comfortable. My personal strengths are my dedication, ability to be understanding, and my ability to be logical. These attributes with not only get me far in my career but also in my life.

Growing up parents always dream of their children becoming doctors, lawyers, and teachers but those plans weren’t for me. Art has always been my passion. My passion became a part of my academic world when i attended Brooklyn High School of the Arts for visual/fine arts.Throughout those 4 years i was able to do what i love while getting an education.Although i loved art iĀ  realized after painting and drawing everyday that i didn’t want to pursue it as a career. Still having a round the clock flow of ideas,i knew i still had to be artistic in a some way. Aside from art baking has always been a hobby of mine. Since 12 years old when i took my first cake decorating course at Michael’s i knew my hobby was there to stay. I’ve taken several classes and interned in bakeries in order to better my craft. To not disappoint my mom i still went to college and received an associates in art from LaGuardia Community college where i went in hopes of being a teacher as a “back up’.In a baking class I took in the city, my instructor spoke on her college experience at city tech for pastry arts. Until then i did not know that city tech offered a hospitality major, that’s when it all clicked for me. I was excited and relieved to know there was a school for me to do what i love and get a degree. My career goal is to incorporate my love for art through a different medium ;food. After City TechĀ  plan on pursuing pastry arts in hopes of opening my own business or becoming an executive pastry chef in an upscale, reputableĀ  hotel.

I have just recently returned back to school after a long stint working as a line cook/ bartender in the fine dining industry.Ā  I was living in new Orleans and then in Oakland, California at the time but did not feel like my strengths were being used effectively. Also, working back of the house was incredibly physically demanding and i did not feel that this was a lasting career choice.Ā  Before i went into fine dining, shortly after High school,Ā  i was running a successful bed and breakfast in Nolita. I was very much into interior design at the time and used that creative desire to design differently themed rooms in a bohemianĀ  place of oddities and art.Ā  I gave it all up for the freedom of the road because i wanted to get out of new York.Ā  I was also an anthropology major who has changed their major multiple times but still hope to remain in academia long enough to get a master’s in gender and sexuality.Ā  I am not currently priveleged enough to have this as more than a dream in my minds eye.Ā  I have a plethora of business/ entrepreneurial ideas that i beleive would be successful but i have taken so much time off to peruse the world that i let my resume and qualifications get the best of me.Ā  Im starting from scratch for the 5th time, jaded and quickly aging.. with my resources becoming more limited by the minute, seemingly.

Im looking to meet industry professionals that i could connect with on an ethical and spiritual level, because nobody can do anything without a team.

Years of surfing alongside teaching the sport inched me closer to wanting to work with and teach the importance of nature. Ecotourism prompts travel and integration of the environment around us and ignites change in the form of hospitality. Through an academic perspective, I am eager to learn the fundamentals of marketing and other business aspects among the hospitality field to broaden my overall skill set.
I also worked at Society CafĆ© in the Walker Hotel off of 14th street. I was simply a hostess but it was the environment that motivated me to pursue the hospitality field. I aim to please and it was rewarding being around like minded and hospitable people. Dancing ballet pre-professionally for 6+ years; discipline and responsibility are two key attributes I possess, though I am always honing my professional characteristics to further my knowledge and enhance my career.

I am a young striving individual whom have been given the opportunity to enhance my marketing knowledge between both retail and hospitality throughout my career path. I quickly adapt in foreign atmospheres and was able exceed at a distinguished pace, along with the proper information and tools. Iā€™m seeking for an environment for the opportunity for competitive growth and advancement, and the ability to apply the assets and skills Iā€™ve gain from previous experiences. I believe if Ā offered the opportunity to hone my preeminent skills and myself in actuality; my driven passion to overcome new challenges and excel would be beneficial, just as the company would be more than highly beneficial to me. Iā€™m looking forward to becoming a potential candidate for a position within a propitious work environment with promising attitude and positive impact awaiting.
