My name is Sofia Sotelo and I live in East Elmhurst New York. I recently graduated from the Academy of Finance and Enterprise and now am a freshman in City tech. I always had in my mind the path that I wanted to take relating to my career goals. My aim was always to become an Event planner and I thank my aunt who introduced me to this career path, she is an event planner but specifically for weddings. When I got to work for some time with my aunt helping her out plan events and then after finishing an event seeing the look in people’s face of satisfaction and happiness it just made me happy to make someone else happy. Other than this experience I also volunteered to help out in my community. I joined The Jackson Heights Beautification group for some time where the group would plant plants to better our environment and also clean the area where there are plants. My personal strengths are that I like to be organized and plan my things out so nothing cramps up and I will be overwhelmed by a bunch of things that I have to do all at once. To add on, I make my own planner in a bullet journal and I plan my whole day in the week to keep track of what needs to be done.  Another strength that I have is that I like to pay attention to detail and I like to be on time these are strengths that will help me out because when your an event planner you have to pay attention to every single detail to make sure everything is doing good as planned and being on time is something that in any job you need. Also, I like to have a positive mindset because when it comes to working with others there is no need to be negative you have to look at things on the bright side. I am looking forward to passing all my classes and getting the best experience at City Tech even if it is remotely.

    I agree with you when it comes to event planning because it’s always exciting to plan something out and see it come to life. This is the first time I heard of the jackson heights beautification group but it sounds very interesting 🙂 !

    Hi Sofia, I feel the same way you do. I definitely like to plan and organize things before doing in because I might get confused or miss a step because I was thinking about everything at once. Plus with what you want to do as a career those skills you have will be very helpful.

    Your organizational skills will prove you well in college and as you develop your career. Consider speaking with Prof. Stewart about the Ambassador Club, if you life to plan and wish to volunteer, this is a great way for you to do both.
