My experience in the kitchen started when I was about ten almost eleven years old. I learned how to cook on my own. I learned by observing and asking questions, which has helped me out a lot. At first I thought about going to culinary school after I graduated high school. However, I decided to pursue a career in psychology, which didn’t work out. I then changed my major again and transferred from Queens College to City TECH. Now, I am looking into the Hospitality Management major with a concentration in culinary. I have never cooked professionally or worked in anything related, but I have always enjoyed making new dishes at home. In the future I hope to become a well-known chef, with my own restaurant. I would like to own more than one restaurant and hopefully travel the world. I believe my strength is that I am creative, and I love to try new things. Hopefully my creativity helps me achieve my goals.

Sam Clampman – EDITED

Hi, my name Sam Clampman. I just finished a six-month internship at Walt Disney World in Orlando. That experience, has confirmed to me that pursuing a career in hospitality is the right path for me. I enjoyed my time working in the food services at the Port Orleans French Quarters.  During my two years at Nassau Community College, I worked at Abercrombie and Fitch in the Roosevelt Field Mall as a Brand Representative. I feel my best quality, and why I am well suited to a career in hospitality, is my personality. I have been told many times that I am a people person. I am hopeful that my degree in Hospitality from City Tech will lead to a successful career in Restaurant or Hotel Management.

My Love for cooking Started in the 11th Grade once i Joined my high schools cooking club. At the time i saw joining the cooking club as another extracurricular activity i would be able to put down on my resume. Turns out i fell in love with being able to cook for many people and exchange stories unrelated or related to the culinary field. And being able to land an intership with Family Cooks Productions helped prepare me for the resposibilities i woud face as a Chef and as an adult. Graduating from high school was a very proud moment for me because i knew i was headed to adulthood. In adulthood i realized im now reponsible for my decisions and actions. And my decision to to come to City Tech and join this wonderful hospitality management community might be one of the best decisions i have made so far. Because now i know im headed in the right direction to success with people who will be teaching, inspiring, and pushing me everyday.

In school, mathematics would push me to evaluate the next probable step.  I administer that into my everyday life through planning ahead to reveal my best.  This discipline keeps me well targeted on my desired future of becoming an Executive Chef and Restaurateur.  I am currently pursuing a degree in Hospitality Management because of my high interest in various cuisines that I am eager to learn firsthand.  This open-mindedness allows me to constantly learn different facets of food and apply that knowledge into my work.

Since I began in the Hospitality field it has brought me so much joy; Staring off as a breakfast server in Miami at the Marriott and to now working at the front desk at the Hilton. I gain great pleasure from knowing that I have had the opportunity to make so many different people’s travel experiences remarkable. I am so excited for what’s to come in learning more about the field and exploring my horizons in different area’s in the Hospitality field.

Having a career in the hospitality field is important to me, because a major goal of mine is to ensure that my customers are having the best experience possible at my restaurant(s). I enjoy making people happy and making sure of  going above and beyond in doing so in my career. I am a fast learner and quickly adapt to and always work well with others. Treating people with respect is something that I was raised by and will continue so and always put my customers/guests first.
