Madison Square Garden is important to our cosmopolitan history because it is the home of many unforgettable sporting, political, musical and entertainment events . These events have been vital moments in our city’s rich history. Madison Square Garden had  undergone its second phase of reconstruction in 2012, and is now full of memorabilia so that when guests look up at the Garden’s walls, they will have a visual calendar of how many events the Garden has hosted since 1879, when the arena was built.

Site visit to the Carlyle- Julia Gagliano

In what way do you believe you need to prepare for a career in the luxury hotel market ? – I believe there are various ways to prepare oneself for a career in the luxury hotel market. The first way is to study all things hospitality and hotel marketing. You want to know all of the basic rules of how to care for a guest . Another way of learning is getting hands on knowledge by working in the filed via internships or working your way up to a specific job. Learn seasoned staff members techniques as well getting to know guests yourself . Hearing the speakers and what they had to say, I have learned that this is a career you master  though experience in dealing with its guests and coworkers.

What one thing influenced your desire to work / or not work in this industry                   –The one thing that had influenced me to work in this industry was the Carlyle itself. The feeling that had come across me when walking around  was unbelievable. The opulence in the lobby and eating areas, the momentum in the kitchen and concierge area downstairs made me want to be a part of an establishment that thrives on teamwork and paying attention to every detail in order to make a guest have a smile on their face. This added to my desire to work in this industry, or even be a part of The Carlyle in the future.

Cultural Tourism- Julia , Sthefany G., Ketsia , Eduardo

The area of tourism our group had focused on was cultural tourism. Cultural tourism is defined as ” A subset of tourism that concerns a country or regions culture, specifically the lifestyles of the individuals in those geographical areas, their history, their art, architecture, religions or religion, and other elements that aid their way of life”. The five significant activities when paying a visit to the Brooklyn Bridge park is none other than looking at the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges! This is the best and the first activity you should do when you are experiencing cultural tourism. Offering you the architectural and historical information about Brooklyn New York. After looking at the bridges, you and your sweetheart can take your “lock of love” and write your initials on it ! Culturally, this is a practice that New Yorkers and tourists alike do when visiting the park . Its considered a part of a major historical structure and being something  that will symbolically last for lifetimes to come, like your love for one another. You  also can walk around and people watch. Its free and a heavily cultural activity that you can engage in by watching all of the wedding , Quinceanera and engagement photos that take place in and around the park. It lets you get exposed to the many traditions and cultures New Yorkers  has to offer. Basque in some more architectural history by looking at the New York skyline , structures that are so magnificent that even a person from Brooklyn has their breath taken away from it. The final thing you can do when you are on your cultural tourism adventure is visit Jane’s carousel ! Its a work of art and something that will bring young and old together . Having a better look at the waterfront as well as riding on a carousel that will certainly be apart of Brooklyn’s history.

Brooklyn Bridge -Julia Gagliano

Upon visiting the Brookyln bridge park and basquing in its culturally diverse surroundings, I have learned that my section of cultural tourism is an entity that will always be developing and growing. Whether it is the construction of waterfront condominiums, or traveling across the timeless Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, It is the people who make this part of Brookyln what it is with  their diversity and contemporary way of life that will always be special to our city’s culture . Even with something simplistic as using the bridges as a way to explore new horizons or going to Janes caurosel with old friends and new friends alike , we make this part of Brooklyn shape who we are and what our way of life. The concept of cultural tourism definitely fits this line of thinking because it is the various forms of art, architecture and cultural diversity that make the people of Brookyln unique .

Julia Gagliano

An art major and honors graduate from Saint Edmund Preparatory high school, I pride myself on being precise, hardworking as well as being committed to my studies. However, I have not yet worked in the Hospitality and management industry but have a deep passion for making people happy with the food I create and the feeling I get when I’m catering to family and friends during parties and celebrations . This Is such a valuable experience for me because I get to hone my craft. I feel that my years at City Tech will certainly aid me in becoming well rounded in this industry and hope that my interest in art carries over into my culinary skills . I aspire to work for a celebrated hotel in the city or own a trendy restaurant  that will provide people with a feeling of being at home. Coming from a very family oriented culture, I will do my best in putting that element into my work so my guests will feel at home and cared for through my efforts.
