Peer pressure among College Students

Do you guys think that peer pressure is something that is being faced by college students? I feel like being in college is a step up the educational ladder where you have to focus on your academic success even more. It is also a time where you have less parental interference with your schedules etc.

Will it be easy for others to sway your attention away from your academics towards other things or is it easy for you ignore peer pressure and focus on your educational path?

  2. Personally, in my experience I don’t think you face as much peer pressure in college as you do in HS. Maybe it’s because you know that everything that happens in College is on you and no one else. You’re no longer a kid, and as an adult, you need to answer for all your decisions.

  3. In my opinion, some college students do face peer pressure. College, especially universities that are out of state or far away from home, is a novel institution that allows continuous self-growth for students. The independence allows the students to decide what activities and groups they want to partake in. They are also introduced to many different people that have different values, beliefs and attitudes. These diverse social circles on campus could pose a challenge when the students are faced to make decisions that do not align with their beliefs. In an article I found discusses an interesting idea about how roommates have the strongest direct influence on students. Students who are entering a new environment may feel the need to make close friends and connect with their roommates. They may face peer pressure by their roommates because it is difficult to reject someone you encounter very often.

  4. i personally believe that one may feel peer pressure in all kinds of situations, whether it be in hs, college, or even at the workplace.
Peer pressure can come in many forms. It may also have positive as well as negative effects on a person. If you find yourself amongst a good group of people that shares the same values and interests that you do, it’ll be very beneficial towards your growth as a person and may also help academically if you surround yourself with others who have the same major. Now is the time when you create who you are and what your values will be and your peers will have a strong influence on that.

  6. Bird of a feather flock together. Whom you are is whom you will be. Typically we do expect that college is to have a certain atmosphere. When we do not have that particular atmosphere we feed into situations that are unlike ourselves. Example: You are much engaged in conversations that regard you uplifting your peers. Moments pass finding yourself not in those type of situations that YOU particularly enjoy. But seem to find yourself clicking with a different crowd than you are used to. You find yourself talking what they are talking, creating social pressure. Conforming your own thinking, when you at one point understood what you had to offer. At times, we lose our morals the more we forget what we stand for, and that the crowd you are with is a reflection of who you are. May you be to yourself? Take pride in being to yourself. God built you so strong you are able to be independent and keep to yourself.

  7. Peer pressure exists in all stages of someones life, whether it’s a kid trying to fit in with their peers at school or an adult with his or her coworkers . With that being said, I believe the toll peer pressure takes on an individual has to do with age and maturity. In high school, students are still trying to discover who they are as people and are much more concerned with fitting in. However, college students are more focused on their education since they are aware that there future depends on the actions they take now. Students in college are also more independent than they were in high school so what they do now impacts them directly and they have learned from their past mistakes.
