Banksy Documentary

The documentary turns into an autobiography on the videographer and his entry into the world of street art and it becomes a documentary on the boom of graffiti and street art. The reality behind the art is captured with all of the danger and the legality of it. He captures many different artists before meeting banksy. Banksy at one point was the only artist he had not captured. He made it his goal to capure Banksy and did whatever he could to capture his process. I believe Banksy is a true artist that has dedicated a lot of time to his vision.

Quotes for Typographical Poster

Quotes and Explanations:

Virgil Abloh – “ Everything I do is for my 17 year old self. ”

Explanation- I chose this quote because he refers to his past and the ambitions he developed. He’s telling us that he’s never let go of that vision. So all of the Accomplishments he’s made are all in light of his childhood and teenhood dreams.

One Piece – “ No matter how impossible it is, never lose sight of your goal. “

Explanation – I chose this quote because of how in the story the main character focuses all throughout his journey on the goal of becoming the king of pirates and finding a treasure that only a few have found before him. It’s inspirational because it shows how dedicated he is and how the crew that he’s developed will give anything to make sure he achieves that goal.

Lil Uzi Vert – “If you’re you, it doesn’t matter if you’re the most boring person in the world, someone will like you. You’re not trying to be anyone else.”

Explanation – I like this quote a lot because he’s talking about how significant it is to be yourself. A lot of people want to follow the trends and they never think about who the trend setter is. Most of the time it’s some who were being themselves. It’s what makes you you.

NIGO – “ I just tried to do what I love and create the things I want to create.”

Explanation – I liked this quote a lot because it explains my thought process when I’m drawing or making something. I always go with the flow of what I want to do and I usually hate having to do things that don’t interest me. If I have to take my approach on certain things I do it in the best way possible.

In 2001, Kering acquired 91 percent of Balenciaga after the business closed in 1972. With this the company went through a new era with a new logo. Under the direction of Nicholas Ghesquiere, Balenciaga’s vision wasn’t changed but rather built upon as seen in the Fall 2001 Ready-To-Wear collection focused majorly on womens clothing with little to no branding.

After Ghesquiere’s departure in 2012, Alexander Wang became the new Creative Director of the brand. With his debut building off of the brands identity using the black and white tones whilst bringing a modern take with fur bombers and vests. In his spring 2014 collection, which would be his last collection with the brand, he brings the bright colors of spring while keeping the formal idea of wear with a more loose approach.

When the current Creative Director Demna Gvisalia came to the brand in 2015, he took a turn that would completely shift the direction of Balenciaga as a whole. Demna, being the founder of Vetements, brings his idea of high end streetwear to the luxury brand. With him he brings in a new Logo for the brand, dropping the double B and just keeping the name itself.

With Demna being the new creative designer, Balenciaga went from being this brand that only business people and older people wore to the new hip thing that celebrities like Kanye and Kim Kardashian have been sporting as of lately.

Currently, Kanye, Demna, and GAP are set to release a Balenciaga X Gap X Yeezy capsule full of looks using denim and dark tones.
