For our project on Italy, we’re exploring how the country’s unique blend of culture, history, and environment has contributed to its significant presence in the textile and fashion industries. From the fashion-forward streets of Milan to the traditional textile towns of Tuscany and Como, Italy’s geography and climate play a big role in what gets produced and how. We’ll also explore how things like population, labor practices, and new technology affect the industry on a day-to-day level.
We’re also looking at how Italy connects with the rest of the world through trade deals, its place in the EU, and its influence on global fashion trends. A big part of our focus will be on how Italy combines high-end luxury with long-standing traditions, from handmade silks to family-run factories that still operate today.
Overall, we aim to highlight both the strengths and challenges of Italy’s textile and apparel industry, particularly in terms of sustainability, ethical production, and adapting to rapidly changing global demand.
