Truth, Trust & Technology: Teaching Authority Across Digital Media, Research, and AI
This modular workshop series helps undergraduate honors students examine how credibility is constructed across contemporary information environments, including digital media platforms, academic research systems, and generative AI tools. Students increasingly encounter knowledge claims through algorithm-driven feeds, institutional research databases, and AI-generated responses, each shaped by different incentives, visibility mechanisms, and authority signals.
The three-part instructional sequence invites students to analyze how these systems influence what information becomes visible, credible, and usable in academic contexts. Workshop 1 explores how algorithms and engagement metrics amplify certain stories in digital feeds. Workshop 2 examines how institutional structures and scholarly communication systems shape credibility.
