    No lecture notes. ???

Good work on the Noh floor plan. The only other sketch you submitted was the Greek theater. Remember, when doing one-point perspective, all the horizontal lines should converge at a single point on the horizon and are not drawn parallel to one another. Only the vertical lines are drawn parallel. In other words, the roofto the proskenion and the roof of the skene should not be parallel lines. Let me know if you don’t understand.

    Act I: missing.

    Hi Phetchabun,

Excellent work on the Greek amphitheater. You are missing most other sketches and classroom lecture notes, however.

Your folders are empty, Cristian. Please upload your work ASAP. Still no drawings as of Nov. 19.

Act I: Overall good work. A few notes. The Minskoff is one of a handful of theaters that was not built during the construction boom of the early 20th century. It is much newer. You need to pay attention to the difference in architectural design of this theater as compared to older ones. The facade is nondescript, even imposing, no? There is a very interesting history about this theater. I believe another older theatre was razed to make room for the construction of this one. Please find out the history here. The interior design of newer Broadway theaters also makes them unique, since there is more consideration about lobby area, seating space, technological capabilities etc. I liked your research question about how the theater connects in ways to its audiences through multiple channels — perhaps with social media, sales of posters and memorabilia, etc. You are missing an drawing of an interior element.

This is a link to your drawings folder only. Where are your classroom notes folder and research project folder?

Only two drawings included. Although both are very good, you need to complete the others we have done to date (see list of required drawings in assignments). Still no folders as of Nov. 19. No Act I.

    Class notes: good

Drawings: most are still missing. You are eyeballing the lines of the perspective drawings instead of creating straight lines that come directly out of the vanishing point. The facade is a good sketch.

Act I: Very good work, only your report does not include a birds-eye view sketch of the area (not a computer rendering), an interior sketch and a sketch of the facade. The grade is provisional — if you update the report I will change the grade. I had a question about your first response. On one hand you say the architecture is unique, but then later write that the architecture blends in with the surroundings. If it is unlike other buildings, explain why it blends in. Your research questions are excellent.

Class notes: Good definitions for the quizzes. I hope this helped you.

Drawings: The arches and Serlio drawings were done with some kind of aid — either tracing paper or a computer program. Please redo these. All sketches must be done by hand directly onto sketch paper.

Act I: Please fix and add the following and resubmit. I can’t grade the report at this point. You are missing an elevation sketch, interior sketch, ticket stub (or email receipt), and neighborhood grid sketch. The typeface you used for some of the answers is unreadable. Please put in a more standard font. Let me know when this is complete please.

No drawings or classroom notes as of November 19.

Act I: Good work. I have some questions and notes. You write that the neighborhood is mostly residential. However, the very block on which the Bushwick Starr sits is mostly industrial or commercial storage of some kind. The warehouse/industrial feel of the neighborhood was not conveyed at all in your report. Your estimate about the ages of the houses and buildings is not correct. They are older, certainly. I’m not sure what you mean by diverse and multi-cultural. Do you mean this in terms of race, class, age? Be more specific. I think it is a younger community that many other neighborhoods and its good to make this observation. The description of the interior space and how it affected your appreciation of the performance is excellent. Your research questions need to be more specific. What can you look for that will help you understand the connection of the theater and the audience/community? Advertising? Types of programming? Is it a non-profit theater, and if so, do they have a subscription audience? Does the company have an artistic mission? What does this mission tell you about its goals for connecting the community? When was the building converted and what changes were made to convert it into a performance space? No interior sketch.
