    Dear All,

I would like to summarize important points that we have discussed and answer questions some of you asked.

    1) EXAM 3 IS ON MONDAY, MAY 4 (details below). I will hold a review session during my office hour 11AM-12PM on May 4 before the test.

    2) TOPICS: Exam problems will be taken from the following WeBWorK sets: Application – Related Rates; Application – Differentials; Application – Extrema; Application – Mean Value Theorem; Application – Shape of Polynomials; Application – LHopitals Rule; Application – Asymptotes; Application – Shape of Graphs (this set will open on Monday).

If you need a refresher on these topics you can watch videos and look at class notes

    3) PRACTICE EXAM: I have prepared a practice exam for you on WeBWorK. It will open after class on Monday April 27 and you have multiple attempts. You are expected to do your homework first. The practice test and the actual test consist of types of problems that were already assigned, so doing the homework is the best preparation. The practice exam is not part of your grade.

    4) EXAM DETAILS: The test is timed (150 minutes) on WeBWorK and you have 1 attempt. The test will open at 12:00pm on Monday May 4 and close at 11:59pm on Monday May 4. Students can take the test during any 2.5 hour blocks in that window. Just keep in mind that once the timer starts it cannot be paused, so choose the 2.5 hours that work best for you. Make sure you keep interacting with WeBWorK so that you are not logged out due to inactivity.

Click “preview” and preview all your answers to make sure you entered what you meant to enter. Before time is up click on “grade test”. “Grade test” is the submission button, so do not press it before you want to submit, otherwise you will not be able to go back and submit answers (I will not be able to reset it). You must submit your answers before time is up.

    5) IMPORTANT-WRITTEN WORK REQUIRED. On paper, make sure you write your questions, show all your work in a clear and organized manner, and circle the answers. In particular correct notation is very important. As discussed in class, when solving problems about increasing/decreasing/local maximum/local minimum/concavity/inflection points you need to show an appropriate sign chart, including which points you are testing. WEBWORK ANSWERS ALONE WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT. They need to be supported by your work. PLEASE WRITE YOUR NAME ON YOUR WRITTEN WORK.

I will post the solution to my version of the practice exam, please look at it carefully so you know what you are expected to show in writing.

    6) IMPORTANT-FILE SUBMISSION-SINGLE FILE. This is very important for record keeping with the department.
After your WeBWorK submission (time is recorded in the system) you have 30 minutes to organize your written work and email it to me.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENT: Please scan your work and email me as a single pdf file.
    PLEASE NAME THE FILE FirstnameLastname.pdf
    Mine would be LauraGhezzi.pdf

(I took pictures of my work and used the free app CamScanner. Students have recommended CamScanner, genius app, adobe scan. Have your favorite scanning ready.)

    7) ALLOWED MATERIALS: You can use notes, textbook, homework that you have done. You can use a graphing calculator to check your work, however graphing calculators answers alone will not receive credit. WORK MUST BE YOUR OWN.

    8) IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE MATH DEPARTMENT: Academic integrity is an important component of this process. Any work that you submit must be your own. The math department takes academic dishonesty very seriously. Any student who uses devices, software, websites, or resources other than the ones permitted by their instructor will be found in violation of CityTech’s Academic Integrity Policy and will be reported to the Academic Integrity Committee. Consequences may include probation, failing grades, suspension and expulsion.

    9) POSSIBLE ORAL EXAM In case I have questions, see discrepancies, or need clarification about your WeBWorK submission and/or your written work I will arrange a brief oral exam with you through a video conference.

    Stay safe and healthy!
